Sylum Advent 2019: Day One

Author’s Note: Okay guys listen up before you click the ‘read more’ link below a few things. This wasn’t an easy chapter to write, actually this particular piece is the 4th rendition.

As we adjusted and changed storyline with Clan War, it become apparent that Aftermath and Going Home were not going to work it was too embroiled with the CSI shows storylines and we aimed to remove almost or all of the ‘fanfic’ type elements.

Loved One Lost aka Grave Danger … had already been pulled to become it’s own story (which you’ll see later in Advent).

On that note if your expecting Aftermath to look like the original – it won’t. It’s a slight change from the rest of the series, but the best ending for the Arc.

You will have question about particular characters, just wait until after Advent because a few of those will be answered.

Coming Soon: 10th Anniversary Clan War (Finale)

For those who clicked on this – thinking OMG it’s the Final Chapter – sorry about that.

Yes as mentioned earlier, Clan War has been finished!  It will be posted during Advent, along with the video and fanmix that will go with it.

Now for a few things about the finale.

This wasn’t an easy chapter.  Every word was painfully put down onto paper.

Matter of fact the final version, you’ll read at Advent, was the 4th version of this story!

Some of you are going – wait what about Going Home and Loved One Lost?

As the 10th Anniversary worked it’s way through the story, a lot of things were changed.  We took out many of the ‘fanfiction’ moments, and worked to incorporate the storyline that was built over the past ten years.  By removing some of these elements, much of Going Home became void, which contributed to the difficultly on how to wrap up the series.

As for Loved One Lost, it was decided early on that it would be pulled from Clan War as in fact it’s a separate story and will center on ‘Grave Danger’.

Aftermath is not quite what you’ll expect, but it’s the perfect wrap up of Clan War: 10th Anniversary Edition.

Sneak Peek: Clan War – 10th Anniversary

Exciting scene from the next installment of Clan War: 10th Anniversary … coming this Advent!

The parlor clock chimed five with solemn intent.

“Thomas?  Do let the lady in, and offer her a seat,” he said briskly, admiring her startling if somewhat slightly dated fashion sense.  “She is in no condition to be left standing at the door like a vagrant.”

The smile she bestowed upon him as she stepped into the Manor, was one of immense gratitude.  “I have come all the way from Hill Valley, California, sir,” she explained.  “And I must say, you are very much as has been described to me.  A noble Roman General indeed!”

She refused the chair to which he gestured, and instead reached to take his hand.

“I confess you have the better of me, ma’am.  I was expecting no visitors at this hour.”  His frown was both dark and severe in order to disguise his utter astonishment at her words.

“Forgive me, but I simply could not wait a single hour longer.  I have to talk with you.”  She took a deep breath and pushed her hat a little more squarely on her head, for it had shifted lopsidedly in her agitation.  “I bring you a message from Doctor Emmett Lathrop Brown.”

Sylum Head Canon: *look here for a moment*

Will-Smith-Helps-You-Forget-In-Men-In-Black-Device-Gif

Parts of Sylum Canon has just been erased.

Going to give it to you straight.

Clan War has been a pain in the fucking ass for a variety of reasons.

* It’s had fits and starts all the way through

* No one wanted to cooperate

* Everyone wanted their five seconds

* And a plot point in it that I’ve never liked slammed us against a wall

Add in RL work projects, burn out, and taking time off to work on the book – Clan War has been a long tedious pain in the ass.

So before I get into Sylum Canon that has been erased some back history:

I’ve never truly liked Greg has the soul of  Theo, Nico’s youngest.  When Sylum began there were a small array of characters to work with and I had no idea where at the time the ‘story’, as it was only supposed to be one, was going.   As the storyline developed and the amount of early fans that pushed the Greg/Gil pairing – Greg ended up with the Soul of Theo or at the time he was called Philipe – DO NOT ASK.

I went with it, worked with it, but was blah about it.   As the series progressed and we started into the 4th Arc, the more Greg began to disappear into the sidelines because I didn’t like the character or his role – to the point there was serious contemplation of killing him off.

Then we started on the re-writes.

On the list of things we wanted to change was Greg, after a lengthy discussion we concluded at the time that ‘it’s just to stuck as head canon for us to change it’.

And we moved on.

All through CSI: Anthology I cringed in writing Greg … don’t get me wrong I like Greg, just didn’t like him in this role.   And as Gil’s story, changed and developed through the Anthology it was obvious they had to be De-Mated as it really wasn’t working.   So I had at least got part of the problem ‘fixed’.

Cue Clan War and the never ending saga of trying to get this particular story finished, as we worked through the story – Greg was no where near the battle with Richelieu and the flow of the story had him being Turned at this moment instead of later Arcs … and again I found myself going *hmmm* death is an option.

Then something happened.

Bob tossed an idea so outrageous that it took us by surprise.   We sat at the table pulled out a box of Krispy Kreme Donuts and hashed it out, though it was working it wasn’t quite right.  Then one of his minion bunnies, obviously hyped on sugar, tossed the last idea out and suddenly it all fell into place.

The results of that new story idea changed Sylum Canon.

Basically it comes down to this.

Will-Smith-Helps-You-Forget-In-Men-In-Black-Device-Gif

*Look here please*

Greg Sanders no longer has the Soul of Theodosius Scipio Meridius.   He has no ties to Nico in that regards.  He is a Chosen One who’s family has been Chosen Ones since the Ice Age.  He was raised in and out of the Manor, stayed summers through his childhood, friends with Ellis, and was encourage to follow his dreams into Science.  He’s Nico’s friend and has ties to Warrick in a past life.   But he NO longer has the soul of Theo.

And while we’re changing Head Canon!

Sam Winchester now has the Soul of Theo.

But.

But.

He’s Meridia?!  Is there not going to be a Meridia?

Yes there is a Meridia, that has not changed and you will meet Meridia, at some point.

That’s all I’m saying at the moment.

So again Sam Winchester has the Soul of Theo.  Basically his story doesn’t change, Nico will still be very happy to see his youngest boy come home.  Dean just can’t tease Sam anymore about being a girl.

Before you ask!  The CSI: Anthology series has been updated to reflect this, as a matter of fact Playing with Fire has been removed from the Archive as it’s not longer Canon.  The full series – including the two stories that were posted with the 10th Anniversary Clan War has been edited and uploaded to the Sylum Archive.

A second note!  All 10th Anniversary Clan War Stories has been moved to the Archive, they were adjusted slightly if need be and given a final edit before being posted.  All future stories will be posted to the Blog and then posted to the Archive.

All other references will be updated as we go through the rest of the series as there are a few ‘canon’ adjustments needed for a variety of reasons.  If side stories get updated first – we’ll post a Throwback Thursday to showcase these stories!

The Matrix has now been reset

Title: Clan War 10th Anniversary Edition: Call to Arms (Part 2)

Author: Bj Jones

Creative Consultant: Timothy Quinn

Artist: Taibhrigh

Author’s Note: So this is about 4 times the size of the original … maybe 6.  There’s more history of the bad guys, an added new one, and Speed’s internal monologue through his capture is epic snark.  You will also get more history of Tony’s time in Damascas and his Turning.  The backstory to Nico’s Turning.

There is a lot of history for Nico, Tony and Speed.

Also a quick note: You’re also being introduced to story threads that will be very very important in later stories.

Author’s Note: The original Clan War was 450 +/- pages.  Somewhere in Loyalties we passed that page mark and kept on going.  Do note that there is a lot of detail concerning what the Manor looks like in this particular chapter.

Clan War 10th Anniversary Edition: Bonding

clanwar10th-chapter02

Title: Clan War 10th Anniversary Edition: Bonding

Author: Bj Jones

Creative Consultant: Timothy Quinn

Artist: Taibhrigh

Author’s Note: This chapter is longer and more detailed than the original.  Which is why many of these chapters have taken longer to re-work.   Lets put it in a perspective everyone can understand.

Bonding: 30 pgs

10th Anniversary Edition: 204 pgs

This is standard with all the Chapters.  The original Clan War worked out to be 400+ pages.  We passed that number somewhere in Loyalties.

Note from Bj Jones:

As it’s been a while since this has been said I figured a reminder was in order as we start to officially post Clan War.

So listen up this will only get said once.

We do not put warnings on stories.

There’s a large blanketed warning over the full series: At one point in time we will discuss subjects that will be uncomfortable, write something offensive, showcase a large variety of sexual acts and partners, and use language appropriate for the time period.

In conclusion: Sylum Essay: Modern Sensibilities ….

Thank You.

Now enjoy the story …. cause your in for the wildest wild in the Caribbean!

As we’re gearing up to start posting Clan War 10th Anniversary Edition, we wanted to take you back to last November when we showcased Kiss of Death.   The beginning is always a good place to start.

Also you might want to go back and reread the CSI: Anthology series to catch up with our boys.  The last two stories of that series will be posted with Clan War as they are specifically attached to the Arc.
