Hello! Welcome to Sylum!
Recently we’ve had newbies and some poor souls that have stumbled onto Sylum with no idea what the crazy is all about. I figured it was time to do a ‘Sticky Post‘ to help all those who wander into the Manor, navigate around this vast universe.
So here we go.
If you’re new here, welcome!! You’ve just been recommended to this vast multi-story universe, and you likely have no idea where to go or what to do.
Well first off.
Fact: Vampires exists.
Welcome to Sylum Clan.
A multi-layered, character driven storyverse.
Inspiration for the first story that effectively launched this concept, was the death of Timothy ‘Speed’ Speedle from the Television Series CSI: Miami.
His implausible and much mourned demise, led to the premise that you can’t kill someone if they’re already dead.
This quite literally immortalized him, birthing the first story Kiss of Death, and the rest just kept on growing, sprawling across more than 7,000 years of unexpected history, and on into the future.
A few things you should know, so you can’t say we didn’t warn you *grins*. There are 3 Major Story Arcs, and hundreds of Supplemental Stories. These stories expand across 13 Clans, 7 Kin Clans, and showcase over 1200 Characters.
We just hit our 15th Anniversary in 2020!
For further information:
What do I read first?
Start where it all began. Clan War.
Clan War 10th Anniversary is the new version, and should be the first thing you read. Afterwards, if you are daring, read the earlier version of Clan War that spawned this great and vast series. From there you will want to read Hell Week and Hurricane Season. Which leads you to the rest of the Arcs. At the moment we’re in the process of editing the remaining Arcs: Family and Evolution. Even though there have been changes – you can read both of these Arcs with little problems.
If you ever get confused or something clashes. Reply to This Post or email us (firstname.lastname@example.org) we will help you navigate through this wide and at times unruly Universe that is Sylum.
Once you’ve finished the Arcs, you can start reading the many side stories that supplement the Arcs and bring in additional characters and clans.
Where do I find these stories?
The Archive of course.
Note: All stories, videos, artwork, and wiki are under the password protected section of the Manor. Go Here to get access.
2nd Note: To access the stories on the Archive you’ll need to create a username/password. This is not the same one referenced above – it’s individual to you.
How do I find references to characters I don’t know?
The Sylum Wiki was created just for that reason. There are many ways to navigate around the wiki blog. It just depends if you’re looking for a specific actor, character, or want to browse through a Clan.
Okay I’ve spent the past week reading everything – what now?
Congratulations!! Hands over coffee and donuts.
For updates on stories, the wiki, general information about Sylum and what the Bobs are up to, subscribe to this Blog. All information pertaining to Sylum will be listed here. You can also follow us on Twitter.
We have three events a year to showcase Sylum Artwork, Videos and Stories.
Spring Fling: which will always start on Easter Sunday
Seven Days of Summer: July 1st – 7th
Sylum Advent: December 1st – January 1st
The Sylum Writers and Artists in any given year – will producer over 60 pieces of new fic, art, and video!!!
*Blink* That’s a lot of work – How do I help/support the Sylum Community?
Feedback! Feedback! Feedback! I can’t stress this enough – Feedback! Take the five extra seconds and reply to a fic/art post and leave a comment – especially during Sylum Events. It doesn’t have to be a 1000 word essay, but a few words will go a long way.
It costs $150 a year to host sylumclan.com, this includes the main site, the blog, and the wiki. On top of it we pay for data backup and spam protection. All donations for the website go directly to Dreamhost – we don’t see any of it. Donate Here.
The Hosting Fees are just a small portion of what goes into building and maintaining Sylum. I’m not the type of person, nor is any of our Artists or Writers, to ask for money. All of us do this because we love Sylum. We love the characters, the ‘fandom’ we’ve created, the people, and even the Bobs.
On a personal note, Sylum is a second job, and I’ve spent a lot of time and money to keep it going. And as Sylum has grown and expanded beyond anything I ever imagined, I can honestly say I need help.
I’ve opened a Jewelry Shop: Sylum Vault. This is to help me cover expenses that I accrue while working with Sylum. Any support you can give me is appreciated. Whether it’s buying jewelry or spreading the word about the Vault. I post new pieces on the Sylum Twitter, please retweet or reblog, help me get the word out.
If Jewelry isn’t your thing, we did open a Cafe Press appropriately named: Sylum Gift Shop. You can find cool and fun Sylum related items. Taibhrigh, Sylum’s Resident Artist, has done amazing work for this project. We’ll add more items to the shop – once we see if this idea takes off.
That’s a lot of information – anything else I need to know?
And most important – have fun.
