Support Sylum: Donations

There is a lot of work that goes into keep Sylum up and running.  There are hours of behind the scenes work:  scheduling and building posts for the blog, updating the website after each Event, maintenance for the blog and wiki, building a new archive, and prepping for Sylum Events (Spring Fling, 7 Days, Advent, and Special Appreciation Days).

Sylum Events coming Soon:

7 Days of Summer – July 1st

Fassbender Fortnight – September 1st

Opening of the New Sylum Archive – October 15th

Sylum Advent – December 1st

And as we prep for these events, we’re still working on everything else!!

This is pretty much a full time job outside the RL one.

I do this because I love Sylum, and what it’s become over the past decade.  As do those who support me, and I appreciation them immensely for the help they have given me.  There are times I can’t thank them enough.

I don’t mind spending my time on Sylum, but at the end of the day – I still need help.

It costs $150 a year to host the website which includes: the blog, website, wiki and archive.

There’s a secondary cost of $50 a year for Spam Protection, Security and Malware Protection (that I pay out of pocket).

We have set up many ways you can help support Sylum.

You can donate directly to our Hosting Company – this money goes to paying the yearly hosting costs, plus renewal of our domain name.

Sylum Vault: Etsy Shop – helps support my personal costs in keeping Sylum up and running.

For those who have shown their support throughout the years – Thank You!  We couldn’t have kept this going without you!

Sylum Inspiration: Lionel Fusco

Lealta: Hunter

Lionel grew up in New York.  He knew how it worked since he was five.  His parents were nothing to write home about, and neither was his ex-wife.

The only thing he was truly proud of is his son, Lee who has been raising on his own since his ex took off.

He became a cop, because it was the good thing to do.  He was stationed at 51st precinct and ended up working with James Stills and Louis Azarello.  Soon they pulled him further into corruption, until he was completely snared and working for HR.

He found his redemption when he got the the first and only drop on John Reese.  Stills ordered Fusco to kill and dump John’s body in Oyster Bay.  During the ride out, John facilitate an escape and let Lionel live, realizing he still was a good cop.

He made Lionel into an Asset, pulling him in to help with the numbers.

John had Lionel moved to the 8th Precinct to work with Carter.

John had Lionel go deeper into HR, to help bring down the organization.  It was then he realized he was finally doing something good.  He liked working with two men, and the dog was cute.

In time Lionel discovered that Carter was also working for them, when the two were trying to help him stop an HR hit.   Only to watch John hunt down the bitch that had stolen Harold.

If that wasn’t enough to prove there was something more going on … after seeing John jump across a four lane highway to get to another building to save Finch, he was sold on the Vampire thing.

He was there for Carter when she discovered about Zoe and later Turned.

She in turn was there for him, when he discovered about Donna.

Sylum Information: Person of Interest

We’ve talked about Person of Interest a few times, and a chunk of John & Harold’s history and beginning storyline was shown in Watchdog.

So what about the rest of the cast.

Lionel’s story will develop along with Carter’s as the stories are written and built.

Shaw was a debate for a while, as we weren’t sure what to do with her, but we got something forming, and we’ll see how it goes.

So I know some of you are asking – what about Root.

No.

Fuck No.

Hell fucking no.

Only way Root is even showing up in the story – is to be killed.  I despised the character let alone the ‘suddenly I’m a good guy but not really’ oh and let’s just make it all about Root and forget that Harold was the one who built the damn Machine in the first place.

Which leads to another question.

No the Machine is not a girl.

It will not have a voice – if it needs one it will use synthetic ones or JARVIS.

The Machine is The Machine.

More of these stories will develop as we go, and we’ll see more coming soon.

Sylum Inspiration: Sameen Shaw

Serenity: Hunter

Shaw lost her parents when she was younger, and ended up in foster care for most of her teenager life.  She had gone to medical school, but was told she didn’t have the right ‘bedside manner’ – so she joined the US Marines.

She was recruited out of the Marines into NSA, from there she ended up working what she would discover ‘relevant numbers’.  When they decided to retire her, she was recruited by John Reese.

It took her less than six weeks to figure out there was more going on than two idiots working to help people.  When she confronted them about the lack of a heart beat they tried to work their way around it, she pointed out she does have a medical degree.

She didn’t have an interest in being Turned, didn’t see the point.  Until a Number went bad, and she lay dying and Joss gave her the opportunity.

Last Chance: Sylum Con Vote

This the Last Poll to see how many are interested!  At the moment we’re at 10 people, and to be honest that isn’t enough to make having a Sylum Con into a reality.  If you have already voted do NOT vote again.

As a reminder …

If we have one it will be in Los Angeles, likely around Octoberish 2019.  We’ll need at least 20 people interested, and by interested I mean truly plan to go – not just oh sounds like fun but can’t really make it.  There will be a Con Fee to cover expenses for conference rooms, events, etc.  At this early in the game we’re not sure what that will be, but it would likely start at $100.

As Cons like these are a lot of work, I’m starting this early!  Please fill out the poll below to showcase if you’re truly interested.
