Giovanni Auditore da Firenze

(Re-post of Teaser from Advent 2015 – Story sets in distant Sylum Timeline)

He moved with ease.

For he had walked these steps a hundred thousand times before.

The crowd parted.

First the media.

Then the people.

Finally the Cardinals.

The mass of red swept itself aside as he continued his journey to the steps of the Basilica.

He stopped a few feet past the Pillars of the Church, his focus on the Pope who stood before him.

Alexander VII.

Rodrigo Borgia.

Returned once more.

He had worked his way through the ranks of the Clergy, all the way to Cardinal. Bribed, threatened, and manipulated the College to win election at Conclave. Within six weeks of his taking office, his corruptions spread through the Church.

Indulgences sold for a price.

Mercy given for a favor.

He claimed that the plague of Vampires on this world was due to the sins of the Church.   Declared divorce once again unforgiveable, homosexuals were to be banned, children of unwed mothers not to be baptized. Forgiveness was not a blessing, but could only be earned.

The hungry grew hungrier.

The outcast became more disgraced.

The sick became sicker.

Alexander VII lived in luxury, wearing fine silks and gold crowns. His favorite Cardinals got cushy jobs, and extravagant homes, while those who opposed him were exiled and destroyed.

“Who do you think you are?” The Pope stared down at the Man in White.

“I was given the task of protecting St. Peters Church from those outside who would bring Her harm.” He paused, head raised as he looked brazenly at the Pope. “Or from those who choose to corrupt Her from within.”

“Giovanni Auditore!”

He smirked wickedly. “I will not have you corrupt the Vatican any further with your greed. You have no place in His Church, Rodrigo. You did not before. You do not now.”

“And you have no power here!” he growled snapping his fingers.

Vatican Police and Swiss Guards moved between their Pope and the well-perceived threat.

With a flare of the dramatic, the Assassin threw his hood back, revealing a familiar face to them. “My name is Ernesto Olivetti, Inspector General of Vatican Security. You know who I am. I command you men to put down your weapons, for this is not a Holy Man who was divinely Chosen, but a man who has sought power and greed for his own earthly desires.”

The Square went quiet.

The first to bow their heads in respect and walk away were his Vatican Police. For the story was legendary within their ranks, that on the day after Pius XVII had been buried, Inspector Olivetti’s office, along with his rooms in the Apostolic Palace, had been Sealed. The only thing he left behind, were his badge and gun, which were now located in the Vatican Archives.

It had been rumored that when the Church most needed Her protector, he would return.

Many had laughed at those who still believed.

But they held onto the hope that one day it would prove true.

That the Inspector would once again take charge of the Vatican, and prepare it for the safe return of Pope Patrick.

The Swiss Guard hesitated, but the steel of determination in the Inspector’s eyes, made them take a united step backward. They knew of the myths and legends just as much as the Vatican Police. Their histories had been intertwined for generations. It had only been until recently, with Alexander VII, that the two forces were once again separated.

The few men who continued to move forward, were easily disarmed and tossed aside.

None were killed. Only their pride was wounded.

“You think I would rely on loyal guards?” Rodrigo snapped his fingers, and out from the main doors behind him spilled mercenaries, armed with military grade weapons, and all wearing body armor. “Kill him!”

From the sea of Cardinals came the ‘Brotherhood’.

Ezio took his place at his father’s right.

Altaïr on Ernesto’s left.

Nikolai slid next to Altaïr, his rifle resting on his shoulder.

Javert stood quietly next to Ezio, sword in hand.

Aveline took point next to the Frenchman, while Shau Jun closed the flank next to the Russian.

Ernesto smiled.

Behind them, two men – one who had carried the name of Pius XVII and the other a Monseigneur – bowed their heads in prayer.

With all due decorum, they made as dignified an exit as possible, neither Vampire saying a word until they were safely in the Inspector’s own rooms. The moment the door closed behind them however, they simply stared at each other, needing to speak but not finding the right way to begin.

Kiernan reached up and cupped his friend’s cheek. “I…”

But suddenly everything was perfectly clear. It had been from the moment Ernesto saw a gun to Kiernan’s head. “Tell me I’m wrong…” he whispered.

“You’re not.” Reaching up still further to lace his fingers through that cold, wet hair he pulled Ernesto’s head down, kissing him hard, putting all the pent up emotions of those last few months into that one singular moment.

Pushing Andrew back against the wall, devouring his mouth, Ernesto growled into the kiss. “You’re my Mate.”

It was not a question.

“Yes,” Kiernan whispered against his lips, pulling him closer. He wanted nothing but to lay him out on the bed and Claim what had always been his, yet as his hands reached under the Inspector’s wet t-shirt he felt freezing, clammy skin and knew his timing was awful. It wasn’t the right moment. Not yet.

Pulling back, panting slightly, just content for a few minutes to hold Ernesto close to him, he finally murmured. “You need to shower and Feed.”

“I know,” he agreed, his forehead resting on Andrew’s. But he didn’t want to move when that calm and contentment he had been searching for through all those past months, was finally there in his arms. How he could possibly have failed to recognise that Kiernan was his Mate, he didn’t know. Why Kiernan had never told him, he also didn’t know.

“Why…?”

Andrew laid a finger to his Mate’s lips. “Not now.”

Sofya of the Meridii

She looked out over the crowd, all of them there for the slave auction.

Pigs to a man.

Brothel keepers and whoremongers the lot of them.

The slaver rattled off his starting bids and then haggled until each slave was sold.

Except one.

Her.

Again.

She couldn’t help but smile, though she hid it well, not wanting to piss off the man with the whip.

She knew her exotic looks and dark beauty had grabbed the attention of almost every man in Rome, but her reputation as a Seer had kept all of them at bay. She enjoyed playing up on it too. It made them turn away and run home to their wives and mothers like good little boys, for rumour had it that she would hex them if they tried to buy her.

And she had absolutely no intention of disproving such a thing.

Except there was one young soldier who showed up every week, always standing in the same place, never saying a word.

She did not yet speak their language very well, but had overheard enough to understand that he was a man of high birth, and an Officer of the Roman Army. He was well respected. And he was admired.

His name, when she learned tell of it, fascinated her the most, for even she had heard stories of the famous Gladiator who once defeated an Emperor.

It was a name that somehow managed to live on, despite orders for its destruction and removal from history.

Meridius.

She just wondered why he kept watching her…

Modern Illuminati Necklace

The Illuminati has been a secret organization for centuries, some will even say older than that.  They do not advertise, nor do they show their presence.  They are subtle in all that do, and that includes how they communicate and signal to fellow Illuminati.

This Necklace was specifically designed for wives of Illuminati members, and the few strong women leaders in the organization, to wear as a symbol.  It’s to make sure that a certain politician knows they are being watched.  A certain businessman to realize his ‘fun on the side’ is paid for by those who control his assets.  It’s to let that Cardinal know who they are to trust, as they have lost their ins into the Sacred place.

If you are loyal to the Illuminati this is the Necklace for you.

Renaissance Illuminati Necklace

Cesare slid up to his sister, Lucrezia watching as she flirted with a few of the lower Cardinals.  She was beautiful, forbidden, and his.  She turned, seeing him watching, with a flip of her hair, she patted the old man on the arm promising him empty words and made her way towards her brother.

“My dear brother.”  She kissed both cheeks, eyes dancing with mirth and promise.  “I had feared you would leave me alone with such bores.”

“I have no doubt you would find entertainment with breaking old men’s hearts, literally and figuratively.”  He slid around her, hands caressing her side.  “I have something for you.”

“A gift?”  She asked excitedly.

He pulled her close to his side, and held up the silver necklace, filled with garnets.  “It will show who you support.”

“It’s beautiful my love.”  She took it into her hands, admiring the craftsmanship.  “Put it on, so all may see I support you in all your endeavors, my brother.”

Illumanti Earrings

Galileo had them made special.  They would look beautiful on her, and he would delight to see the most virtuous woman in Rome wear his very own symbol.

Lucretia had thanked him for the gift, and wore them many times over the past few years.

Until That Night.

After her Clan lay in ruins, she took the earrings and dropped them off at the local pawn shop, sold them for a small percentage of what they were worth, and donated the money to the Sistine Chapel Restoration.

Never would she wear anything with Triangles again.

Lucretia Dazzling Key Chain
(Sold Out)

It was a gift from Carlos.  He had seen it in some cheap souvenir shop.  It wasn’t special or expensive, but he knew Lucretia would like it.  It sparkled in the sun, and dangled nicely from her bag.

It was for the keys to her knew car.

The blue hyped up Fiat.

He gave it to her, along with a quick kiss.  “It’s not diamonds, but I thought of you when I saw it.” He shrugged shyly.  “It sparkles and shines brightly, like you.”

Lucretia dangled it in her hand, watching as the color bounced off the walls and sidewalk.  It was the most beautiful gift she had ever received.  “Thank You.” She lifted up on her toes and kissed him softly.  “Wanna take a ride with me?”

Carlos pulled her closer, kissing her once again.  “I would go where ever you want.”

Isabella’s Swiss Cross Bracelets

Chartrand had seen her admire the bracelet set, while watching her on the cameras.   He had taken to keep an eye on his wife, Mate through out the day.  He was sure she would smack him if she knew, or sicced her father on him.  Though he had a feeling Ernesto would agree with him, as he knows he keeps an eye on Kiernan when he roams through Vatican city.

This was the second time he saw her stop and admire the set.

The moment she moved on, without buying them he put his plan in action.  Taking his lunch break he made his way over to the Vatican Museum, wandering around until he found the particular bracelet set.  He grinned when he realized the small Swarovski Charm was that of a Swiss Cross.

Without hesitation he picked them up, and took the set to the register.  Quickly buying them, he made his way to her office.

“Pierre!”  She smiled at him, excited to see her husband.  He rarely visited her at work, as they both knew how busy they were.

He gave her a shy smile, then set the box on her desk.  “For you.”

She opened the lid, gasping softly.  “I thought of you when I saw them.”  She put them on her wrist, admiring the jangle they made.  With slight tears in her eyes, she stood and made her way around her desk, sliding into her husband’s arms. “Thank you.”

May Birthday Charm Necklace

Ernesto opened the package, and stared at it a few moments.  It was beautiful, something he would’ve bought for any of his daughters.   He looked up at the man sitting across from his desk.

“You do realize I’m not a girl, right?”  Ernesto set the simple necklace, with the Swarovski Emerald Pendant.

Carlos shrugged.  “You and Inez share the same month for birthday, I thought it was fitting.”

Ernesto shook his head, he wasn’t likely to wear it, but Inez thought it was beautiful.  He stood from his desk, and moved towards the small window in the left corner.  He hung it up on the small hook that held the blind cords, letting the sunlight make the crystal shimmer.

“Thank you, my Carlos.”

“Happy Birthday, my little whore.”  He stepped up behind Ernesto, kissing him on the cheek.

Artist Palette Key Chain

Robert wondered how long before Leonardo noticed it.  He had just returned from a conference at Harvard, and had seen the small key chain on sale by one of the clubs on campus to raise money for charity.

He thought of his Mate and bought it instantly.

Almost lost it four times, but amazingly he got it home.

And now it had been sitting on Leonardo’s worktable for five hours.

Robert smiled into his tuna sandwich, and kept typing away on his notes.

“When did you get here?”  Leonardo asked, hand landing on the key chain.  He looked down at it, picked it up studying it.  “Did you get this for me?”

“Yes.”

Leonardo laughed, then dug through a box of odd bits, until he pulled up another key chain, this one had a small book dangling off of it.  He handed it to Robert.  “Saw it at one of those farmers market things.”

“We’re saps.” He twirled the book in the air, smiling brightly.

Leonard laughed. “Tell no one.”

Olivetti Handcuff Earrings

The moment Peter saw them, he knew he had to get them for El.  There was no way, she wouldn’t find the humor in them, and would delight in wearing them just to get a rile out of Neal.

The cashier gave him a look, but he didn’t care.  So what if he was grown man buying handcuff earrings, his wife would love it!  At least he was likely to get laid for it, so there!

Eliot was keeping Neal out for a few hours, and Nathan was working with Hardison on a new job.  There were moments, when he wondered how this had become his life, but then realized he loved it.  He was a better person, he had people he loved and those who loved him.

El turned around sensing he was coming, unlike Eliot he couldn’t sneak up on anyone.  It was something he was trying to learn.  He just smiled at her, and held up the small gift bag.

“Oh I love gifts.”  She carefully unwrapped the tissues paper and then squeed when she saw them.  “These are perfect!”

“They have the colors of the Vatican Flag, I was totally thinking of Neal getting arrested by Inspector Olivetti.”  Peter explained with a grin.

“Oh Honey…” She kissed him passionately.  “You are kinky bastard under that cheap FBI suit.”

“I live with three other guys and my wife, I think we went beyond kinky.”  He lifted her onto the kitchen table.  “So how about you wear those and nothing else.”

Vatican Bracelets
(Sold Out)

Isabella bought the set for Mary.  Her sister had come along way since she had Inez, and she figured she would like the simple seed bead bracelets.  One represented their father, with the colors of the Vatican Police.  Another for the Swiss Guard, representing her new boyfriend, Pierre.  And lastly the colors of the Vatican Flag.  She had heard that Pope Pius XVII had met Mary, and blessed little Inez.  It was what had brought her sister to her dorm room, to talk about Papa and what Mama had said these past few years.

E for Ernesto Key Chain

Ernesto looked at the Key Chain, then back up at his Holiness.

“For your birthday!”  Pius sat down across from him.

Ernesto shook it, a small bell like sound came from the rhinestone hitting the stainless steel chain.  “It jingles.”

“Yes so I can hear you coming.”

Ernesto’s head tilted.  “Is this because I bought you an actual bell?”

Pius smiled.

The Head of Vatican Security laughed, as he pulled out his file cabinet keys.  The cabinet he kept his extra weapons, plus sensitive documents.  He made a show of putting the keys on the new key chain, then set them in his desk drawer and shut it.

Pius frowned.  “Sneaky.”

“I learned from the best, where is your bell?”  He gave him a pointed look.

“On Strauss’ Bunny Slippers.”

Irish Field Rosary
Sold Out

It had come on May 29th, addressed to Ernesto Olivetti.  The Inspector had eyed it, and had it scanned.  He had good reason to mistrustful.  When nothing was triggered, he picked up the small box and sat at his desk.  Slicing open the seal, he dug through the bubble wrap until he found a small card.

He turned it over, instantly recognizing the handwriting.

‘A gift from St. Patrick this Day.’ – Patrick

So it would seem Patrick figured out a few things.  He pulled out the organza bag, opening it carefully to let the item fall into his hand.  He leaned back and stared at the multi-colored green rosary, accented with a Celtic Cross.

He ran his fingers over the Our Father beads, the prayer going through his head.  Tomorrow he would have to call his friend and thank him for such a thoughtful gift.

Sylum Aesthetic: Andrew Kiernan

Sylum Aesthetic: Andrew Kiernan

***

That had been the night when Kiernan told him about Vampires.

Almost sixteen years later, Olivetti was one such creature himself, and he had a bone to pick with Monseigneur Andrew Kiernan about Turning Swiss Guards without consulting him first.

When, he wondered, with an exaggerated roll of the eyes, would people get it through their thick skulls, that he could in no way do his job effectively, if they left him out of knowing important pieces of information?

When??

Ernesto stalked into the Secret Archive, slamming the door shut behind him. He had just opened his mouth to start yelling at the Priest in residence there, when instead he found himself being held by him.

And a warm sense of peace enveloped him.

He wrapped his own arms around the smaller man’s body and held him close, his head dropping down to that familiar shoulder. He hadn’t realized how tired, stressed and strung out he truly was until that very moment.

He could hear soft whispers against his neck, but not make out the words. His eyes closed, just taking in the feeling of complete contentment.

It was as if they were the only two people in the world.

A strong rush of emotion swept over him, deepening and reaffirming his own sense of longing, want, and need.

He moaned into Kiernan’s neck as he was pulled closer, their bodies seeming to fit perfectly together.

His every breath sounded harsh in his own ears.

His body felt then as if he had just had the best sex of his life.

Such a feeling wasn’t new.

He had let Kiernan Feed on him a few times over the past decade or so, but on that particular occasion it felt different. It left his mind more settled, and his Soul completely satisfied.

The final straw came when she brushed past him on the way out of Church, and her hand slid across his backside.

He froze.

She turned and winked, then she continued down the aisle as though nothing untoward had ever happened.

No wonder she never kept a suitor.

The boys in town were far too weak to handle so brazen and forceful a woman.

He had been walking down the dim and narrow passage between the blacksmith’s shop and the barn where he kept his horse – intending to check on the animal and make sure it was getting proper food and water – when the door suddenly opened there in front of him, hands reached out, and he was pulled inside.

The door slid shut just as quickly as it had opened, and he found himself being pushed up against it, small lips pressing upward against his, a most inviting tongue demanding entrance into his mouth.

He gripped the arms of his ‘attacker’ and pulled her away from him.

“Inéz?” he growled. “What in God’s Name are you doing?”

“What does it look like?” she retorted, slipping out of his grasp, pulling his face down into another kiss.

Demons & Angels by Timothy Quinn

A Note From the Author:

I love and hate Dan Brown in equal measure.  I’m not entirely sure how that’s even possible.  But there it is.

His historical and artistic interpretation of … everything, drives me batshit, in provoking a willing suspension of disbelief that you want so very badly to actually believe, thinking he’s leading you on an epic journey, only to fall flat on your face at every ending he ever writes.

I had to do something about this, having hurled my copy of Angels and Demons across the room in anger and frustration.

I had to save the Camerlengo.

I had to do something productive with a fantastically ruined character of charisma and depth whose motivations were pushed from ‘willing suspension’ to ‘you are fucking kidding me with this shit’.

So here he is…

…and then Ernesto came along with him, because he was so goddamn hateful in the book, and so ridiculously cute in the movie, it was a contradiction that’s never quite worked.

Nothing in Angels and Demons worked, even one of the Altars of Science was placed in the wrong damn spot in Rome!  And for the record Raphael has NEVER been buried anywhere else in the history of ever… (don’t get me started cos this could be a long list).

I’m thinking of Sylumizing Dan Brown’s ‘The Lost Symbol’.

Hold onto your butts.  Antonio Crisafi is coming along for the ride … just as soon as Speed’s eaten his copy of Langdon’s book.

Signed,

Timothy Quinn

Sylum Inspiration: Patrick McKenna

Camelot: Member

Patrick was born in 1966AD, in Armagh, Northern Ireland to Mary Ann McKenna, a former Nun.  His biological father is unknown.

She raised him to be a devout Catholic, attending Mass every day of his life, and teaching him that God loved him, and He had a destiny waiting for him.

When he was six years old, he lost his mother in a UVF bombing at Armagh Cathedral – a protest against the visit by a Titular Archbishop on an Apostolic Mission from the Vatican, who had come to Ireland to try and broker peace.  The boy’s survival saw him labelled as ‘The Little Miracle of Saint Patrick’.

The Archbishop took Patrick back with him to Italy, formally adopting him, stating that he would raise the boy in God’s Church.

Patrick had the Vatican as his playground and school yard.  He remembered most fondly the Vatican Police officer who usually caught him running from the Nuns and dragged him back to his studies.

As he got older, he found himself talking with that same officer for hours, looking to him for wisdom and companionship.

Though he didn’t have to, when he was 18 he demanded that he follow through with his National Service to the Italian Military.  Though he never learned to use a gun, he excelled at flying helicopters.  Patrick never told the Vatican Police Officer, that he knew it was him who had made sure Patrick was safe during those two years.

When he returned, he dedicated his life to the Church, going through Seminary and becoming a Priest.  When his ‘father’ became Pope, he took the position as Camerlengo – much to the dismay of many older men in the Church who had sought the position for themselves.

He was proud to see his friend go on to become Inspector General of Vatican Police.

When his father suddenly died, he was devastated.

The night of Conclave 2006AD, everything changed.

Welcome to Ernesto Olivetti Week

Well it’s finally here!  Ernesto Olivetti Appreciation Week!

So how did Ernesto end up invading Sylum so throughly?

I have no idea … okay it was Pierfrancesco’s cheeky grin!

It started off with Timothy Quinn working on the Demons & Angels.   And noticed how cute and adorable Ernesto was.  In the book, he’s a grade asshole and no one cared that he bled out in a church.  But lets face it Pierfrancesco is too adorable to kill.

So we discussed turning Ernesto, as he could be a good Hunter for Lealta.

That’s all it was supposed to be.

That’s it.

A side character, nothing more nothing less.

We were trying to figure out what to do with him, when one night we were walking the dog … may Sammy Rest in Peace … discussing bunnies as you do, and inspiration … Mate him to Kiernan.

To this day we swear Sammy caught that bunny in the bushes!

Okay so at least now the side character had a Mate.

*snorts*

Ernesto knew he had his way in, and from there he weaseled into having his own story.  Because who didn’t want to know what happened after ‘That Night’.  It really was supposed to be a small story … no really it was.

*inserts laughing gif again*

4/8/2012 – The first email stating … ‘The story begins’

4/9/2012 – Was the first … ‘Evil Timeline of DOOOM!’

Subsequent emails dating all the way to 5/28/2017 usually with titles ‘damn Italian’ ‘WTF Ernesto’ ‘Fuck you Bob’ and ‘Seriously, Serious?’

And the rest is history, he slid into storyline made himself home.

He even forced changes in Demons and Angels.  Roads Untravelled was supposed to start with Ernesto waking up a Vampire, after everything happened in Demons & Angels.

*inserts laughing gif again*

Then there was the 4 hour discussion of what if we Mated him to Patrick, after 100 pgs was already written on Roads.   Needless to say we worked around that pretty pairing and ended up with Butterfly and Gustave.

Then there was the moment when Bob decided to tell us he had the soul of Sofya, Nico’s wife.

*inserts laughing gif again*

Speed had to rework more of Demons/Angels, and I had another scene to add to Roads.

Oh and then there was the Ezio discussion in the middle of Mass.  And just as I walked away leaving Speed near the Altar, as I whispered – what if he has the soul of Ezio’s father.

The glaring, flailing and silent cursing was pretty epic.

Of course that backfired on me!  As I had more to write.

In the end, we ended up with a good story and character, still having no clue the impact Ernesto would make on Sylum or the fact he would attract so much attention.

And now he has his own week.

So what do you expect to see during this week?

Random Posts throughout each day (yes that means more than one post a day!) that tie into his storyline, history, and well teasers.

A set of Jewelry pieces designed specifically for Ernesto and other characters associated with Roads Untravelled.

New Fanmix for Roads.

Aesthetics.

Ernesto’s 3.5 hour long Interview, with Pius commentary.

And the updated version of Roads Untravelled.

Also – if you want some add fun check out my Tumblr for posts/reblogs in honor of Ernesto Olivetti Week.

But for today – we’ll be starting to where it all began …. Demons and Angels.
