maintenance-1

WordPress updated.

Themes did … ish.

At the moment the theme we use has been updated … sort of.  The problem is if you’re using Safari, if you click on the links in the tables or the bios – it will show the non-updated version of the theme.  If you click on tags (actors, actress, or clan position) it will showcase the bios in the new updated theme.  If you type a name, clan, or position into the search field it will showcase the bios in the new updated theme.

As you can see it’s being a pain.

Now if you use Chrome it’s perfectly fine.   If anyone uses Firefox if you can check the wiki blog and reply to this post to let me know that would be awesome.

I did try to use other themes including WordPress own personal themes and they are all having the same issue with Safari – any time you would click a link past the front page it went to your previous old theme.   Hopefully this will be fixed, and we can move on.  If not … the screaming you’ll hear will be me.

As this bunny has decided to be front and center *kicks the POI to the side – You’ve done enough damage!* – figured be good Throwback Thursday to the original series.  Not that a lot of it will change, it’s just getting upgraded and added story elements that we now have for that time period. *cough* Kenway *cough*

Sylum Advent 2016 – Sign Ups

Yes it is that time again.

Advent is just around the corner, I’m not even sure where the year went.  No really I’m not.

I’m again sending out the call, *poking*, pleading, COME ON GUYS!  There are over 1000 characters in the Sylum Wiki, not all of them are being used in stories or have stories.   Join us crazy people who do this every year!  Write a story, doesn’t have to be epic, small time stamp is good.  Produce artwork, either drawn or digital – could be for characters, a particular story, clan, Bob.  Fanmix – put together a list of songs for a character, story or clan.

There are many great opportunities to participate!

What is Sylum Advent?

Sylum Advent s is our Annual Winter Event.  It will start on December 1st and go through to Boxing Day, December 26th.  It will focus on Sylum Stories, but we also accept Sylum Art, fanmix, and videos.  It’s not uncommon to see stories that are set up that will relate to major Arcs.

What do you need to do to participate?

You will need to sign up and state what your interested in doing.

REMINDER:  All Sylum Stories will need to be approved by Bj Jones – It’s not difficult to work with me for storyline.   I’ll be honest it’s best if you focus on stories that aren’t attached to main characters being used in Arcs or stories by other authors.  If you’re interested in doing a Sylum Story contact Bj (sylumclan@yahoo.com).  DO NOT write the story then send it, seriously guys – not a good idea.  Drop me an email … we’ll talk.

How do I sign up?

Sylum Inspiration: Roy Hicks

Knight: Hunter

Roy Hicks grew up out on the Western Frontier. All he knew was his father died at the Battle of Shiloh, and his mother took him out West seeking a job as a nanny for a wealthy land owner.

Roy grew up running around the deserts, learning to live on the land from his patron’s cattle ranchers. He learned to shoot, herd cattle, speak Spanish, and a few native languages from the local Priests at the Mission that settled in the area.

He ended up the small town’s Sheriff.

Roy was prepared to ask Thomas Pace for his daughter’s hand in marriage, when everything went to shit.

Rogues rode into the town, destroying and killing everyone. Roy was able to grab Lucy and escape to the Mission, hoping to hide her so he could go get help.

Only to have the monster follow him.

Roy held Lucy as they watched the Priest fight off the Rogues, one by one they each went down. Until the last one stood, a man in a black hat.

Hicks doesn’t talk about what happened after that.

Sylum Story: Re-work in Progress

madnessorbrilliane

It’s been one of those things, I knew with all the additions and updates this particular series would have to be looked at.

I’ve been avoiding it – for obvious reasons.

Due to a weekend of OMG  Bob REALLY!  It would seem now is the time.  As these changes will need to be shown for other stories.

And I’m not going to mention a certain character who inserted himself into storyline where he didn’t belong … and for once I’m not actually talk about Reese *snorts*.

No panic!  The originals are not being removed – they’ll stay in the Archive until this is done.

POTC

Lately with Bob off on a tear.

And working on putting all the story threads into the right places to set up future events.

I feel like ….

Lucy grew up in a small western town. Her father was a local rancher, who had good standing in the territory. Her mother made sure she had an education, which was provided by the Nuns that worked at the Mission just outside the town.

She was always happy to talk with the Priest who ran the Mission. He always seemed quiet and soft spoken. Took the time of the day to talk to her about many things: religion, philosophy, theology, and even world politics. He told her many times that she could be more than just a wife.

She was never sure about that, as all she saw in front of her was to get married and have children. He advised her to marry for love not duty and with that in mind she set out to court Roy Hicks, the local sheriff.

It was then all hell broke loose. Roy grabbed her from her home when Rogues entered the town and started killing anything that moved. He got her up to the Mission for protection.

They both stared in fascination as Priest set into battle taking out Rogues where they stood. Until the one with a black hat walked in.

They don’t talk about what happened afterwards

Coffee House Friday

Lately Bob seems to be off on a tear.  The amount of times I went to bed past midnight because the little bastard decided – lets work out this very complicated storyline RIGHT NOW!  *glares at evil bastard who looks so unrepentant*

In the long run this is good.  Stuff is getting done.

I’ve got ‘Afternoon Fics’ on my tumblr that is keep me occupied and entertaining Speed.

Sylum is being expanded and worked on … *glares at Pirate who decided it was his time to be annoying, he can’t let his Mate take all the limelight*

Prep work has started on the 2nd book … God help me … I’m still recovering from the 1st one.

And we won’t even mention Dragon Reese or the damn Sylum POI storyline *points up to the let’s stay up past midnight to work out complicated storyline*

Like I said this is good.  I just would like some sleep.  No really.  Sleep would be nice.

So Coffee House topic of the day.

How’s that muse of yours doing?

Annoying?  Flaked out in the heat? Ran away from home? Be a good little muse?

Announcement from Bj Jones – I’m Published!

If you’re wondering what this image is.

It’s the cover to my book.

Yes, I actually did it.  I took the leap into Published Fiction.

I will say it hasn’t been easy.  There’s been a lot of blood, sweat and tears.  There’s been frustrations and joy.  But in the end from the support of those who love me and God’s Blessed Grace … here it is:

Conversations in Real Time by Nicholas J. Finch (I’m pretty sure y’all can figure out where the penname came from)

Beginning with a series of emails sent back and forth between the UK and the USA, this novella is the story of how two men, one a Los Angeles detective and the other an Oxford research student, find themselves drawn to each other despite leading very different lives on opposite sides of the world.

Their relationship starts with a professional offer of assistance and through instant messaging, texting and phone calls they invade each others’ lonely and yet busy days, learning about themselves and slowly falling in love as they discover they both need something from the other until they finally get a meeting face to face and can get up close and personal.

There are over 600 of you that follow this blog, and I know there are much more of you that follow Sylum.   I’m pretty sure y’all came here because you enjoyed the story, the universe that was created.  I’m hoping you will now follow me into this new world and help support me in this endeavor.   There isn’t a lot of Gay Fiction in the real world, so help me get this book out there.  Get it seen.  Spread the love.

To keep updated on what my next project will be follow the tumblr for Nicholas J. Finch

Now don’t panic.  This doesn’t mean I’ve stopped working on Sylum or other projects *pointedly looks at Dragon Reese*.  I’m not giving up on my Vampires – it’s Sylum that got me writing and has led me down this long adventurous path.  Nico’s story is far from finished.  I’ll keep writing Sylum until I die, and even past that, knowing Bob and his ability to get what he wants.

Sylum Inspiration: William ‘Billy the Kid’ Bonney

Knight: Hunter

William Bonney was born to Irish immigrants, it is uncertain who his biological father was. Some researchers have theorized that his name was Patrick McCarty, Michael McCarty, William McCarty, or Edward McCarty. His mother’s name was Catherine McCarty, although there have been continuing debates about whether McCarty was her maiden or married name. She is believed to have emigrated to New York during the time of the Great Famine.

In 1868, Catherine McCarty had moved with her two young sons, William and Joseph, to Indianapolis, Indiana. There she met William Antrim, who was 12 years her junior. In 1873, after several years of moving around the country, the two were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and settled further south in Silver City. Antrim found work as a bartender and carpenter, but then became involved in prospecting and gambling as a way to make a living, and during that period spent very little time at home with his wife and stepsons.

McCarty’s mother reportedly washed clothes, baked pies, and took in boarders in order to provide for herself and her sons. Boarders and neighbors remembered her as a jolly Irish lady, full of life and mischief, but she was already in the final stages of tuberculosis when the family reached Silver City. On September 16, 1874, Catherine McCarty died.

At the age of 14, McCarty was taken in by a neighboring family who operated a hotel. He worked there to pay for his keep. The manager was impressed by the youth, contending that he was the only young man who ever worked for him who did not steal anything.

In 1877, McCarty (now widely known as William Bonney) moved to Lincoln County, New Mexico. Bonney, along with Brewer, Bowdre, Scurlock, the Coes and Saunders, was hired as a cattle guard by John Tunstall, an English cattle rancher, banker and merchant, and his partner, Alexander McSween, a prominent lawyer.

It’s here the story gets legendary.

Billy along with Scurlock, Chavez and the rest of Tunstell’s crew set out to bring justice to the man who murdered their employer, and became known as the ‘Regulators’.

Billy the Kid became more legend than man over the next few years, leading to confrontation with Garrett in Mexico. When Pat dragged him away from the area and told him about Vampires, and that he should ask Doc about it, Billy attacked him, for insulting his friend.

He didn’t call many friend, but Doc was one of them.

Garrett took him to see Scurlock, who was tending to Chavez, who had been Turned after the shootout with Garrett. Doc went after Pat’s throat, only to be pulled back by his Mate. Billy sat down with him and asked a lot of questions.

In the end he walked back into the desert and demanded Pat do what needed to be done.
