Sylum Charity: Monterey Bay Aquarium

Monterey Bay Aquarium

The mission for the Aquarium is to inspire conservation of the ocean.

Frolicking sea otters, fast-swimming sharks, pulsating jellies and waddling penguins — our world-class exhibits and breathtaking scenery instill a love of the ocean in our visitors. With over 200 exhibits and 80,000 plants and animals, the Aquarium is a window to the wonders of the ocean.

They have great educational services, and do a lot of work with rehabilitating sea animals, plus studies and conservation of the Pacific Ocean.

Sylum Update: Wiki & Chat

A few quick updates!

Wiki Formatting: A while back (okay so it was a month ago, but feels longer) I brought up about the formatting for the post for the Wiki, whether to stick with the old style or implement the new one.  The votes favored the new format, and with much discussion, decided to go with the New Format.

This actually wasn’t an easy decision (as this is a lot of work) but the main factor was – we couldn’t trust the plugin to keep working, and if it failed we would be right back where we started.   Thank you for all the votes, it helped with the decision process.

So we’re back to putting in the new format.  As we do Sylum Inspiration’s you’ll see the changes, and we’re slowly working through the Clans – starting with the ones that have updated images.  As the tabs are working, we’ll update bios to the new formatting when we get updated images.

Global Movie Day: Still want to guess how many movies there are in Sylum – you have a chance.  Go Here and put in your best guess.

Sylum Inspiration: Heidi

Ehre/Weisheit: Hunter

Heidi doesn’t remember much of her family. She remembers her dad was tall and always made her laugh, while mom had a beautiful singing voice. After they died she was given to her grandpa Alp-Oehi.

He took her to the Von Trapps where she was raised with an education and all intents to be presented in court. Except she had no interest in court and was more interested in learning how to fight.

When she was old enough she went straight to her grandpa and asked to be Turned.

OREO COOKIES!!!

*now where’s the glass of milk*

Sylum Snippet!

He folded the newspaper down, glanced at the plate and glass set in front of him.

Oreos and a glass of milk.

Every alarm bell in his head went off, something was wrong.  He folded the paper set it on the table next to the plate, folded his hands on the table, and then looked over at his grandmother.   The woman was a Saint, no really … a Saint, she always was damn good at making sure to get her way.   Stubborn as hell, which obviously runs in the family, considering his own damn stubborn streak.

“Avó.”

“Peter dear.”

He made the sign of the cross.  “Holy Mother come to my aid.”

She rolled her eyes, but laughed lightly.  “You are to suspicious my dear Peter.”

“It’s saved me many times.”  He gave her a pointed look.  “You brought me milk and cookies.  Obviously, what you have to tell me is sudden, or it would be Pastal de nata, and I know the cook is off today.”

“You love Oreos and I can’t just spoil my favorite grandson?”  She reached over and took a cookie and dipped it into the milk.

“Don’t make me call Wenceslaus.”  Peter grabbed his own cookie, pulled it apart and licked the creamy filling.  “Just tell me.”

“Aguilar called,” she paused for a moment then took a deep breath.  “Jamie is helping a kid, who according to all his teachers will be an Olympic Fencer.”

Peter had learned patience over the past few centuries, but so far he had no idea what this had to do with him.

“His name is Marcus, and he’s a spitting image of you when you were an annoying teenager…”

“I have a descendant?”  He stared at Elizabeth in shock.  “Tell me more … “

Character Introduction / Oceania Clan1

Sylum Inspiration: ThomasMagum

Oceania: Hunter

Thomas Sullivan Magnum IV was born 1944. Both his father and grandfather were naval officers.

He was born in Detroit, but raised in the region of Tidewater, Virginia. In high school, his football team won a Virginia State football championship. Some members of his family, including his mother and her second husband, still reside there.

Magnum attended the United States Naval Academy then served ten or more years as an officer in the United States Navy, rising to the rank of Lieutenant before resigning from the service in disillusionment in 1979.

Magnum was a Vietnam War veteran and a former POW who believed his wife Michelle died in bombing during the final pull-out from Saigon. He served in both the SEALs and Naval Intelligence during his Navy years, and as such maintained many contacts in both communities.

After he retired he moved to Hawaii where he became a Private Investigator. He ended up working for Robin Nest as security personnel, in exchange of room and board, and use of his Ferrari. His boss was Higgins, who he suspected of being Nest, but could never prove it.

When he was shot defending Higgins, he found out at least some of Higgins’ secrets and accepted being Turned.
