The MacManuses

Camelot Hunters: MacManuses

Connor and Murphy are twin sons to Noah and Meagan.

To this day they still do not know who was born first.

When their father disappeared, accused of murder, their mother found work in the nearest Abbey.

Both boys lived a life of prayer and in good works to the Lord, educated and raised by the Monks, until as teenagers they saw first hand what their mother was enduring for their protection.  She died giving birth to another child, the bastard son of the Abbot.

The two boys in a fit of righteous anger, attacked the Abbot, killing him instantly.

Seeking some sort of justice for both their parents, they found themselves in Rome, and fell into studying for the Priesthood – seeking safety for themselves as well as their family name.  It was Father Kiernan who introduced them to Il Duce, but only once they had been Ordained.  He offered them a life to help those who could not help themselves, to do God’s work and cleanse the wicked from the face of the Earth.

(Dilios Note: it’s not known when they figured out Il Duce was their biological father)

Noah was amazed at their abilities, and proud when they surpassed even his own skills.  The two worked in perfect motion, their movements fluid, in complete sync with each other.

He Turned them soon after their introduction.

Sylum Inspiration: Noah MacManus

Camelot: Lead Hunter

Born in Ireland, Noah was the the son of Jacob MacManus, and apprenticed to him as a tanner.  He took over his father’s business as his skills grew, expanding it as his reputation as an expert leather worker spread even beyond Ireland, and across the water to England.

He married Meagan, the girl from next door, whom he had known since they were mere children, and they settled into a good life that promised great prospects, which were only enhanced when she bore him twin sons.  The boys were Baptized, Connor and Murphy.

Six months later, the newly installed Archbishop of their Diocese, stopped into the shop demanding work to be done for his new home.  He had heard of Noah’s reputation and wanted only the best work, offering a vast sum of money for the rapid completion of all requested items.

Unable to refuse, Noah crafted the leather work for chairs and other furniture, as well as for personal goods such as purses and bags, and when the Church refused to pay, claiming the work was shoddy and inadequate, Noah killed the Archbishop’s secretary in a fight.

Knowing he would bring harm to his young family, even if he tried to explain his actions, Noah fled for his life.

He wandered for many decades, angry at the world, and seeking justice that seemed utterly unobtainable given the power of the Church, he finally came to Rome, and meeting Father Kiernan changed more than just his outlook, but his purpose in life.

He would later attribute Kiernan to giving him the path he needed to follow. (Dilios Note: Kiernan stated later it wasn’t quite meant the way Noah took it, but as God does not make mistakes…)

That was when the name Noah MacManus disappeared and Il Duce was born.

For many centuries he was also known as Lachtna – which in Irish Gaelic means ‘milk-colored’ as reference to his hair, and was used for a certain degree of intimidation as the same name is said to have belonged to an ancestor of Brian Boru.

No one is quite sure about all that Noah actually accomplished in his human life, but the tales live on to this day.

Il Duce then met the real Brian Boru.

Sheldon Jeffrey Sands, a CIA agent, met Enrique Bastidas Montoya, also known as El Mariachi, in Mexico when he recruited Montoya to kill Mexican army general, Emiliano Marquez, who worked for Armando Barillo, who is the biggest drug lord in Mexico.

Marquez’s goal was to assassinate the Mexican President.

At one point his mission becomes compromised and Barillo drills out his eyes, leaving him completely blind.

Eventually, on the Day of the Dead, Sands, Montoya, and Sands’ team fight Barillo and the others outside the presidential palace, and though they win, Sands is mortally wounded. Montoya offers him an immortal life and Sands consents to be Turned.

Sylum Inspiration: John Grimm

Border: Hunter

John Grimm is the fraternal twin of Dr. Samantha Grimm. Their parents were geneticists and began teaching their children their trade at an early age. Early in their childhood their parents were killed in a tragic accident.  The siblings were outside in the playground, when an explosion ripped through the lab killing their parents.  John would never forget the screams of the people trapped inside. As a result of the accident, John and Sam were bounced around from foster home to foster home until their grandparents could finally get custody of them. Both have a knack for genetics, but Sam is the only one to follow this path. John decided he wanted nothing to do with the research that killed them and joined the military.

At the age of 18 he joined the Marines, quickly moving his way up the ranks and is recruited for the elite Rapid Response Tactical Squad. Where he met his commanding officer, Sarge, a man who would do anything to succeed. Although he hasn’t spoken with his sister in years, he kept up on all of her research and how she was doing. She was the one weak spot for the hardened Marine. He was tagged with the nickname ‘Reaper’ by his squad mates and quickly moved his way up to second in command of his unit.

In 1998 Sarge informed the squad of a special program they had been volunteered for.  It was supposed to make them faster and nearly invulnerable. This program was being operated by Donald Lydecker, head of the MANTICORE Corporation. After finding out what the experiment entailed, John decided that he didn’t want to take part in it, but was informed that refusing wasn’t an option. They held his sister over him as leverage and he reluctantly agreed to take part in the experiments in order to keep her safe. He was given different injections that allowed him to perform under various conditions. He was finally injected with something called Chromosome 24. Unfortunately, his body, like all others before him, began to reject the treatment after a few days. Lydecker ordered that he be Turned by a rogue vampire he had working for him because he didn’t want to lose one of his best test subjects.

(Dilios Note: There’s rumors that Manticore is a subsidiary of Crimson Moon, but so far there has been no connection found.)

So you’re thinking … wait he’s not in Passion Kin Clan.

No he’s not … but Passion is a small Clan and we’re all out of Hunters.

So here’s a random one 🙂

***

John grew up in California with a very Catholic mother.  He never asked where his father was, knowing it would upset her to talk about it.  He learned later in life that he had disappeared when John was very young.  There were rumors of gambling debts, entanglements with the mob, and that he ran off with his secretary.

As a young man he was called to the Priesthood, and went through the eight years of Seminary only to start getting doubts months before he was to be Ordained.  His Confessor suggested he take a pilgrimage to the Vatican.

Constantine knelt in front of La Pietà and prayed for guidance.  When he stood up, he came face to face with Andrew Kiernan.  The two men talked for days, ending with John leaving Seminary and following his true calling.  He studied with Keirnan in The Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and spent the next decade traveling the world, studying miracles and holy relics.

He returned to Los Angeles at the news of the death of his mother.  Settling back into the city, he started a Private Investigator business, where he took a few odd jobs, but still his focus was on the work sent to him by Kiernan.  While investigating a missing person, he stumbled upon Balthazar and his ‘brides’.  As the investigation progressed he got pulled into Balthazar’s schemes.  As he tried to escape, he was Turned without Consent.

Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, he walked into mine.

(Dilios Notes: It’s how Claude sums up his meeting with Rick Blaine)

Claude grew up wanting to be an Inspector like his father. He enjoyed his job, liked helping people and knew he was good at it.

Then he got caught in a situation with Rick Blaine, which he found out later was a Vampire and a Spy. The whole situation was a mess and at the end he ended up a Vampire himself.

Wait – why are we getting 2 Inspirations?  Well because the 1st of the month fell on an awkward Tuesday 🙂

Westley started off as a simple farm hand, who fell in love with a girl. When she finally realized he was in love with her, and fell for him, he set out to make a fortune so they could be together.

Only to be caught by Pirates, then trained to be a Pirate Captain.

When he returned for her, he discovered she married another, and died while having his kid. Not sure what to do, he ended up wandering the countryside robbing people. He ended up trying to rob Marek, who had him begging for mercy in seconds.

(Dilios Note: Not that Westley wanted to admit that)

He gave the Pirate Captain a new chance at life.

Sylum Inspiration: Álvaro de Bazán

Integridad: Hunter

Álvaro de Bazán was born in Granada, southern Spain.

His grandfather, Álvaro de Bazán, took part in the conquest of Granada in 1492, and his father, Álvaro de Bazán the Elder, took part together with Giovanni Andrea Doria and others marines in the recapture of Tunis in 1535, and was distinguished in the service of Charles V, by whom he was made general of the galleys or commander-in-chief of the Spanish naval forces in the Mediterranean.

The future admiral followed his father in his youth, and was employed in the high command of the Spanish navy at a very early age. At the age of eight he was appointed “Military Governor and captain of the fortress and city of Gibraltar”. His command however was via his father who was in commands of the galleys of Spain. It has been speculated that this unusual appointment was intended to show Charles V’s confidence but the commander of the galleys did not share that confidence and he suggested to no effect that Gibraltar’s Line Wall Curtain be extended to the southern tip of the rock. He was a member of the Military Order of Santiago (St. James). In 1564, he aided in the capture of Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, and commanded the division of galleys employed to blockade Tetuan, and to suppress the piracy carried on from that port. The service is said to have been successfully performed. Bazán certainly earned the confidence of Philip II, by whom he was appointed to command the galleys of Naples in 1568. This post brought him into close relations with John of Austria, when the Holy League was formed against the Turks in 1570.

During the operations which preceded and followed the Battle of Lepanto, Bazán was always in favor of the more energetic course. In the battle he commanded the reserve division, and his prompt energy averted a disaster when Uluj Ali, who commanded the left wing of the Turks, outmaneuvered the commander of the Christian right, Gian Andrea Doria, the nephew of his old comrade Andrea Doria, and broke the Allied line. He accompanied Don John of Austria at the taking of Tunis in the following year.

When Philip II enforced his claim as heir to the crown of Portugal in 1580–1581, Santa Cruz held a naval command. But António, Prior of Crato, an illegitimate representative of the former Portuguese royal family, who conducted some popular resistance to the crowning of what was seen as a foreign king, continued to hold the islands of the Azores. António was supported by a number of French adventurers under Philip Strozzi, a Florentine exile in the service of France. Santa Cruz was sent as “Admiral of the Ocean” to drive the pretender and his friends away in 1582. Badly outnumbered, he won the Battle of Ponta Delgada off Terceira Island against a loose confederation of Portuguese, French, English and Dutch adventurers and privateers, which decided the struggle for the Azores in favor of the Spanish Habsburgs.

Santa Cruz, who recognized that England presented a grave threat to Spain’s empire, became a zealous advocate of war. A letter written by him to King Philip from Angra do Heroísmo in Terceira, on August 9, 1583, contains the first definite suggestion of the Spanish Armada.

Santa Cruz himself was to have commanded. His plans, schemes and estimates occupy a conspicuous place in the documents concerning the Armada collected by Don Cesário Duro. The hesitating character of the king, and his many embarrassments, political and financial, caused many delays, and left Santa Cruz unable to act with effect. He was at Lisbon without the means of fitting out his fleet, when Francis Drake burnt the Spanish ships at Cádiz during his 1587 expedition. The independence of judgment shown by Santa Cruz ended by offending the king, and he was held responsible for the failures and delays which were the result of the bad management of his master. His death, which occurred on February 9, 1588 at Lisbon, was said to have been hastened by the unjustified reproaches of the king.

Álvaro was a bit shocked to see his enemy Francis Drake show up at his door.   Drake smirked and gave him an opportunity, he knew Álvaro had a future and was smarter than the political idiots.

Sylum Inspiration: Calleigh Duquesne

Integridad/Sylum: Hunter

Calleigh Duquesne was born in South Carolina and was raised in a good Southern family, or so her momma made everyone believe. Her father was a drunk, and an asshole, which finally came to an end when he was killed in a car accident when she was sixteen.

After graduating High School she went to Charleston University, graduated with a degree in Physics. She started working in Charleston PD, earning the name Bullet Girl from her expertise in firearms.

She was recruited by Horatio Caine for the Miami-Dade Forensics Lab. She was the new girl along with Eric Delko, who had also been recruited into the lab after Megan Donner left. She wasn’t sure how to handle the one veteran, Timothy Speedle.

Overtime the team solidified nicely together and she felt as if she found a family. It all came crashing down when Speed was shot and killed in the line of duty. Only to find out that he was a Vampire.

Soon she found herself in a Clan War and dealing with all types of Vampires.  It was the first time she met Diego.

Later she was told that she was his Mate. Only to discover that he was drastically injured and had gone home to Spain to recuperate.

Calleigh stayed in Miami, even after Horatio and Speed moved to New Orleans. She worked with Mac and Danny, and then soon became friends with Michael, Sam and Fi. It was finally after she learned all that happened in Rome, that she took a Spaniard by the horns and gave him one option take what was his or don’t.

He wasn’t that stupid.

Javier keeps mostly to himself. He swore loyalty to Azeem and used his skills as a Hunter. In time he also works with Andrew Kiernan in jobs that need to be taken care of.

Javier moved to the New World in the late 1700’s. He knew Benoit from traveling around Europe and knew the new Clan Leader would need Hunters.

At the moment he works as a New York Police Detective, keeping an eye on the Castle family as a favor to Mal.

He wasn’t quite sure what to make of the small Irish Detective, who became his partner.  There had been many times in his life he hadn’t felt he deserved at Mate, but Kevin kept him grounded.

After Michael Westen disrupted their life and introduced Kevin to the MacManus and Vampires, Javier knew he was going to have to tell him everything.  So when Ryan returned from Ireland, he sat him down and told him things he never told anyone.

Kevin took it with the dignity and calm that he had always associated with him.

He Turned him the next weekend, and makes sure to treat him like he deserves to be treated.
