Wiki Blog Update
When I went to do maintenance on the Wiki Blog, I noticed that search queries were not pulling up any findings! Despite the fact we all know, there is enough Michael’s and Sam’s to pull up at least 5 bios!!
It took some time, but was able to locate the problem and fix it.
If you were searching for anything on the Blog the past few days, and didn’t find anything – this would be why. Feel free to try your searches again.
If some of you don’t mind, could you test the search function to make sure it is actually working and reply to this post … that would be great!
World Migratory Bird Day
What is World Migratory Bird Day?
I had no idea until I ran across this.
World Migratory Bird Day is a conservation initiative that brings awareness on conserving migratory birds and their habitats throughout the Western Hemisphere. This program is dedicated to international conservation efforts and environmental education in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Originated by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, it is now coordinated by Environment for the Americas.
Why are we posting it?
A) This is kinda awesome!
B) We’ve been trying to showcase new and unique Holidays/International Events
C) Nico would be all over this due to his own affinity to Birds

May 6th: Swiss Guard Anniversary
May 6th is the Anniversary of the Stand of the Swiss Guard, which became the date of their swearing in Ceremony.
***
~ May 6, 2007: San Damaso Courtyard~
It had been 480 years since the sack of Rome, and 147 Swiss Guards gave their lives protectingPope Clement VII.
Since that day, May 6th had been celebrated as the Feast of the Pontifical Swiss Guard to honour their fallen number, and initiate new Guards into the service.
After the horrifying events of the year before, and the new regulations that the Swiss Army had implemented for stringent security, there were very few new recruits.
Five to be exact.
Ernesto Olivetti, Inspector of the Offices of Vatican Security, stood at the sidelines as Pope Pius XVII gave his homily and then prepared the Mass. It was unusual for the Pontiff to be so directly involved in that way over such a ceremony, but His Holiness had made a most deliberate point of being the one to preside. It mattered greatly, and that was precisely what he had told Ernesto when he was politely informed that he didn’t technically have to be there.
Soon after his promotion, Olivetti had been confronted by Retired Commandante, Franz de Courten, of the Swiss Guard. The man had stalked uninvited into his office, and gone into a bitterly furious tirade about Ernesto destroying the history, honour, and traditions of the Swiss Guard. He had marched around the room, his walking stick slamming into the floor to emphasise each point that he was making, and in no uncertain terms, did he accuse Ernesto of deliberately seeking power by the forcible removal all that came before him.
For his part, the Inspector had sat quietly behind his desk, waiting until the retired Commander finished his ranting and got all that venom off his chest. When the man finally stopped and stared, expecting Olivetti to give an answer, what came next was a simple rebuttal stating that no one thought he, the inimitable de Courten, could possibly have had anythingto do with Richter or his plans, therefore his bolstering anger was without foundation. Ernesto then continued to inform the man, that he was not in fact trying to remove the Swiss Guard, instead he was trying to bring together two unique divisions with their own historical backgrounds and beloved ideals, that had spent too many years working side by side while remaining with separate identities, in order to protect the Vatican and his Holiness. The traditions of the Swiss Guard were as important as those of the Vatican Police, but new ones had also to be made.
Evolution was inevitable.
He then invited him to the Feast of the Pontifical Swiss Guard as his personal guest.
Ernesto looked out over the small private crowd. The five new recruits were sitting in the front row, listening intently to the homily. When they were called upon to make their vows, they stood, moving as a unit, their stance clearly demonstrating the pride they justly felt at having been selected for the few who would ever come to hold so prestigious a position.
The Chaplain of the Guard read the Oath.
When their name was declared, each man approached the Swiss Guard Flag and grasped the banner in his left hand. He raised his right hand with his thumb, index, and middle finger extended along three axis, a gesture that traditionally symbolized the Holy Trinity, and swore allegiance adding his own name where necessary.
“I swear diligently and faithfully to abide by all that has just been read out to me, so grant me God and so help me his Saints.”
After the last man, Cardinal Strauss, who stood at the Pope’s elbow, looked over at the Inspector and gave him a nod.
“Ernesto Olivetti.”
The crowd quieted down as he strode purposefully up the stairs and onto the podium. He wasn’t wearing the uniform of the Guard, but instead had donned his formal uniform of the Corps of Gendarmerie of Vatican City State, and was sporting a ribbon pinned to his lapel, formed from interwoven strands that bore the traditional distinctive colours of the Swiss Guard. He approached the Flag with military bearing and precision, grasped it with his left hand, and held up his right with the three fingers extended as per protocol.
Aloud, he spoke the Oath for himself, making a slight adjustment for the impact of the moment.
“I, Ernesto Olivetti, swear I will faithfully, loyally and honourably serve the Supreme Pontiff Pope Pius XVII and his legitimate successors, and also dedicate myself to them with all my strength, sacrificing if necessary also my life to defend them. I assume this same commitment with regard to the Sacred College of Cardinals whenever the See is vacant. Furthermore I promise to my men, of each rank and both branches of Vatican Security, all respect, fidelity and courage. This I swear! May God and our Holy Patrons assist me!”
He looked out past the crowds to see the men of the Vatican Police, all in their best uniform, all standing proud, and all saluting their new comrades in the Swiss Guard.
He stepped back, turned to the freshly sworn in Guards and saluted them.
They saluted back.
Months later the Swiss Guards would show their comrades the same respect by attending the necessary ceremony for newly initiated members of the Corps of Gendarmerie of Vatican City State.
And evolution became history.

Sylum Information: Jupiter Twins
The Jupiter Twins replaced the ‘Riddick’ Twins.
I know many asked why? But we needed to simplify the story down, massively. So we made them fraternal twins, instead of identical and took away Alejandro (cause at some point we had way to many kids in this series).
The reason the actress were changed was to pull everyone out of the head canon that was the original twins. Plus these two actress played ‘Silk Spectra’ in Watchman and are pretty bad ass in their own right.
So yes the twins are completely different, their stories are similar yet different, but the other option was getting rid of them completely.
Sylum Information: Vaako (who was barely saved)
Vaako.
Okay so here’s the thing. You can all thank Taibhrigh for him being saved. The original storyline that was given to me by persons long ago – wasn’t really working and so the best option I had was to kill them off in Family.
Taibhrigh was like can we figure something out for poor Vaako??
So this is how he got removed, updated/changed and combined with Cooper from RED.
So for Vaako fans – thank our Resident Artist for this save.

Note from General: Update in Real Life
Okay this is an announcement from The General.
Real Life has been in a major upheaval for a while now. And do to some of the changes that have taken place, I’ve lost some of the time I spent on Sylum. This includes writing, blog work, and updates.
Before you panic! I’m still working on new stories and updating older ones – it’s just slowing down slightly.
And if you see some holes in the schedules for the blog, it would because I just couldn’t get it that week.
Plus it’s likely the Afternoon Fic is the first thing to be hit the hardest … I’m not stopping it entirely, it will just be way more sporadic.
Sylum is still running strong. We’ve got new items for the shop! If you didn’t check out yesterday’s Bookmark Event for World Book Day – there’s still a chance today!! We’re also prepping for 7 Days of Summer (hing: Russian Spy is up to 40pgs … just sayin’) along with the next ‘Appreciation Event’ – Fassbender Fortnight.
And we always prepping for Advent.
So please be patient. And if you would like to participate in Sylum Events like: 7 Days of Summer or Advent – sign up! The less spaces I have to fill means I can work longer on bigger stories.
Sylum Information: Carol Hathaway
I’ve mentioned a few times over the past year, that while updating the Wiki and reworking Clan War we had decided to change a few things.
Besides Diego being saved, we also saved Carol.
I’m sure many were wondering why we didn’t Mate her with Doug Ross, as that was THE pairing in ER. We thought about it, but also liked the idea of Carol being independent on her own, and Doug’s Sire, giving him a chance at a good life.
There will likely not be big grand stories about Doug or Carol in the Sylum series, instead more small moments in variety of stories to show who these guys are.
Sylum Reminder: Everything is Connected
Just wanted to put out a quick reminder to everyone.
Especially as we’re working on:
- The new Sylum Archive which means edits and updates to exsiting stories as they are uploaded.
- Seven Days of Summer is approaching (likely faster than any of us would like)
- Fassbender Fortnight is in early preparation
- Sylum Advent which is always lurking in the background
- Major updates/changes to Border Clan Stories
- And Clan War … *eyes it*
As stories are being written, edited, and updated – please remember a very important thing.
Nothing is True. Everything is Connected.
What does that mean?
All these stories are connected. All these stories ties back around to other stories. I work with the writers, to discuss storylines and characters, so nothing is random.
If Alex Summers is mentioned in A Scribe’s Tale by Paula Cas – there’s a reason for it. Not reading A Scribe’s Tale because ‘it’s not your fandom’ means you just missed a hint of other storyline.
Or if don’t read something based in a specific Clan or group of characters you will miss something that will pop up in a larger story arc.
Everything is Connected.
Sylum Information: The Salvation of Diego
Zorro has been saved!
While working on the 10th Anniversary Clan War, there were a few things listed of changed wanted to make. One of them was saving Diego. He was too good of character to get rid of so soon.
So he was saved.
Though we had to shove him off to Integridad Kin Clan, until we could bring him back into storyline.
And he also got a name change, because we discovered the name we had for him – was actually a leader of a drug cartel … so yeah we figured it was a good idea to change it.

All of the CSI Fics have been uploaded to the CSI Page. You should find this entertaining as some of this is Pre-Sylum days. It was like going back to the Jurassic Era and discovering the old fandom days.
