Sylum Inspiration: Jack Bauer

Sylum: Hunter

Jack was born in Santa Monica, CA, the oldest son of Phillip Bauer. Little is known of his mother – Jack rarely speaks of her.  Phillip intended for Jack to follow in his footsteps as head of his company BJX Technologies, but Jack chose a career in the military instead.

He joined the US Army, working his way up to the elite unit, Delta Force. While in the Army, Jack received several commendations for performance under fire. He left the Army with the rank of Captain, and made a career of working for various federal and state/local government agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, and a stint as case officer in the clandestine service with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).  He is now Lead Field Agent/Field Ops Director for the CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit).

He has demonstrated a high proficiency with firearms, explosives, electronic devices, resistance to torture (Dilios Note: After being kidnapped by Chinese agents, and tortured for almost two years, it is revealed he didn’t speak a single word for the whole time). He is fluent in German and has demonstrated ability to speak Spanish , Russian, Arabic, and Serbian.  He’s also shown to fly planes and helicopters.

His wife, Terri, was killed by a terrorist, J ack blames himself for her death. His daughter, Kim, worked with him at CTU, while dating Bauer’s partner Chase.

After a day from hell, Kim dumped Chase and disappeared.

Jack was left picking up the pieces.

St Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick

We’re highlighting specific Saint Days that are relevant with in the Sylum Universe.

St. Patrick is important in many aspects of storyline – from Monseigneur Kiernen to St. Patrick of Conclave.

***

Saint Patrick was a fifth-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. Known as the “Apostle of Ireland”, he is the primary patron saint of Ireland, along with saints Brigit of Kildare and Columba. He is also venerated in the Anglican Communion, the Old Catholic Church and in the Eastern Orthodox Church as equal-to-apostles and the Enlightener of Ireland.

The dates of Patrick’s life cannot be fixed with certainty but there is broad agreement that he was active as a missionary in Ireland during the second half of the 5th century. Early medieval tradition credits him with being the first bishop of Armagh and Primate of Ireland, and they regard him as the founder of Christianity in Ireland, converting a society practising a form of Celtic polytheism. He has been generally so regarded ever since, despite evidence of some earlier Christian presence in Ireland.

According to the Confessio of Patrick, when he was about 16, he was captured by Irish pirates from his home in Britain, and taken as a slave to Ireland, looking after animals, where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family. After becoming a cleric, he returned to northern and western Ireland. In later life, he served as a bishop, but little is known about the places where he worked. By the seventh century, he had already come to be revered as the patron saint of Ireland.

Saint Patrick’s Day is observed on 17 March, the supposed date of his death. It is celebrated inside and outside Ireland as a religious and cultural holiday. In the dioceses of Ireland, it is both a solemnity and a holy day of obligation; it is also a celebration of Ireland itself.

Throwback Thursday: Sylum Essay Series – Vampire Relationships

Last year we had a series of Sylum Essays!  They ranged from Vampire Relationships to Modern Sensibilities and Sylum Characters.

With the recent update on the blog, we were able to pull all these together plus some older Blog Discussions (way back in the day) under ‘Sylum Articles’.

Today we’re re-highlighting: Vampire Relationships!

The Relationships between Vampires can be vast and complex.   The Sire/Childe Bond, Mate Bond, and other type of Bonds are not always simple and cookie cutter.  Every Bond is different.  Every relationship is different.

Kinda like every day relationships.

It’s not as simple as two Vampires come together as Mates and they live happily ever after.  No relationship works that way.  Even being Soul Mates knowing that they are destined to be together, and if one is to die the other follows – isn’t going to stop the OMG you left your damn shoes in the middle of the God Damn Hallway again!!  It’s also not going to always tie the two so tightly together that there is no one else in the picture.

Sylum Inspiration: Lily Jupiter

Lily is the twin sister of Laurie.

They lost their father when they were four years old.  They don’t remember much, but knew their mom cried a lot, until Riddick came into their lives and helped where he could.

They knew something happened to their Uncle Riddick, he was gruffer and more reserved after the nice blonde man had died.

He came in and out of their lives, always making sure mom and them were taken care of.  After mom died, he stayed in New York intent to find them good husbands.  They disagreed.

He took them back to New Orleans and handed them over to Queen Moussette so they could finish their education and be proper ladies.  He had no idea she was also teaching them how to fight, bringing in the warrior he saw roaming New Orleans a few times that only talks to Nico.

They finally approached him and informed they both wanted to be Turned.

He really couldn’t say no.
