Sylum Inspiration: Quintus Fabius Tacitus

Vampire Council: Hunter

 

Quintis was the firstborn son of the Tacitus family. He was a disappointment to his family when he stayed in the Army instead of leaving to become a politician.

His reason for staying had to do with his friendship with Maximus Decimus Meridius, who he later betrayed by following Commodus’ orders and accepting the position as General of Pretorian Guard – bringing honor to his family name.

When he was ordered to have Maximus executed, he sent his worst men, hoping his friend could escape. He was thrilled, shocked, and horrified when he saw Maximus at the Colosseum fighting as a gladiator.

He kept to himself and waited for the moment he could redeem his personal honor. As Commodus fought with Maximus on the arena floor, Quintus kept his men from giving the Emperor a weapon, letting Maximus finish the job.

As they carried Maximus’ body out of the Colosseum, guilt ate at him for all the things he had done. He silently vowed to make it right.

It was then he discovered Maximus had been Turned and was a Vampire. Odysseus later sat down with Maximus and Quintus, telling them about the world of Vampires. They also promised to come back in one year and a day to take matters in their own hands if the two Mates didn’t figure things out for themselves. A year and a day later Odysseus Turned Quintus at both men’s request. They took the newly Mated pair back to the Council where Imenand had to do some quick explaining, and then set them up as Hunters.

Update/Changes: Sylum

Updates/Changes Within Sylum

  • We’ll be updating the password on Nov 1st.  Do not worry.  We’ll be sending out notifications/reminders starting from now (on here and the group password).   We’ll be sending out the new password starting in September, which will give you two months to adjust before it changes officially over in November.
  • This will become a new precedence in updating/changing password on a yearly bases.
  • We’ll be adjusting how snippets are presented in the Archive, more information on that will follow.  But basically it will be easier to navigate where they are located.
  • We’ll be working to remove all story elements (including snippets) from the blog itself.  At the moment all stories that are in the Archive have already been removed from the blog, we’ll be also removing snippets and anything that was non-cannon.   Snippets as stated above are in the Archive, but anything non-cannon will be removed completely.  As for ‘Afternoon Fic’ the only one this will affect is Still Breathing as it’s a Sylum Story – the rest can stay.
  • There will be some changes to Events starting next year.  DO NOT PANIC – we’re not taking anything away!! Calm down it’s okay 🙂 the only thing we’ll be doing is changing how we present materials.   More information will be forthcoming in the next few months.
  • If you’re wondering what’s up with all these changes.  It’s in precaution of protecting Sylum, along with the creators and readers.

Sylum Inspiration: Brisco County Jr.

Border: Hunter

 

Brisco works as a Political Science teacher at Charles Xavier’s School in order to be close to his Mate.  While still works occasionally for Scurlock as a Hunter for Border Clan.

Brisco County Jr. is the son of the famed US Marshal, Brisco County, Sr.  Growing up, all he wanted to do was follow in his father’s footsteps.  After he was shot and almost killed on a mission his father sent him on, his family decided to send him to Harvard.

At Harvard, Brisco earned his law degree, but realized that being a lawyer wasn’t what he wanted to do.  While traveling back to his home, he learned that his father had been killed by the Blythe Gang.

He vowed to carry out his father’s last job and bring in John Blythe, so he teamed up with two of his father’s US Marshal friends, James Hickok and Noah Dixon.

During a standoff with Blythe, Brisco was injured and subsequently Turned.

Sylum Charity: Khumbu Climbing School

As mentioned in the Qumolangama – this is the Khumbu Climbing School.

High in the Himalayas of Nepal near the beaten track to Everest, there is a humble pastoral village called Phortse that is perched among the clouds. You may not see it if you trek up the precipitous path more traveled, past Tangboche Monastery and beneath the breathtaking pyramid of Ama Dablam. But look to your left, across the gaping gorge of the Dud Kosi river and you will see a terraced knoll dotted with stone structures. It is there in the shadow of the holy peak, Khumbila, above a quiet birch forest that the Khumbu Climbing Center found a home.

The Khumbu Climbing Center (KCC) was launched in 2003 and over the past fifteen years has become a successful vocational program for indigenous people. Each winter for two weeks, technical climbing skills are taught along with English language, mountain safety, rescue, and wilderness first aid. Dr. Luanne Freer, who oversees the Everest base camp ER, attests that KCC skills and knowledge are saving lives at the roof of the world. Nearly one thousand Nepali men and women have now attended KCC since its inception.

In the beginning, our instructors were qualified western climbers and guides who had experience in the Himalaya. Most of the teachers are now Nepali but we continue to have a small Western team travel to KCC each season. They often include National Park rescue rangers and professional guides who generously offer their time and expertise. They pay their own way or get sponsorship to give of themselves to the Sherpa community. We at KCC are deeply indebted.

Sylum Inspiration: Storm

Vampire Council: Member

Storm hasn’t talked much about her life before she met Charles. Her family is from Africa, where Charles had found her, and she left them behind to come with him to the United States.

He helped her with her Mutant powers, and in turn she teaches at his school to help other children. She was exposed to the Vampire world when Charles introduced his ‘son’ Nicolaus to them and the fact they were there to help stand against Magneto.

It took her some time to figure out why Brisco County Jr, one of the Vampire Hunters, was staying at the school. She found him sweet, and when he told her about Mates and Vampires she sat down with Charles.

After many discussion and assurances she wouldn’t loose her Mutation, she agreed to be Turned.
