Throwback Thursday: Sylum Essay Series – Vampire Relationships

Last year we had a series of Sylum Essays!  They ranged from Vampire Relationships to Modern Sensibilities and Sylum Characters.

With the recent update on the blog, we were able to pull all these together plus some older Blog Discussions (way back in the day) under ‘Sylum Articles’.

Today we’re re-highlighting: Vampire Relationships!

The Relationships between Vampires can be vast and complex.   The Sire/Childe Bond, Mate Bond, and other type of Bonds are not always simple and cookie cutter.  Every Bond is different.  Every relationship is different.

Kinda like every day relationships.

It’s not as simple as two Vampires come together as Mates and they live happily ever after.  No relationship works that way.  Even being Soul Mates knowing that they are destined to be together, and if one is to die the other follows – isn’t going to stop the OMG you left your damn shoes in the middle of the God Damn Hallway again!!  It’s also not going to always tie the two so tightly together that there is no one else in the picture.

Sylum Inspiration: Lily Jupiter

Lily is the twin sister of Laurie.

They lost their father when they were four years old.  They don’t remember much, but knew their mom cried a lot, until Riddick came into their lives and helped where he could.

They knew something happened to their Uncle Riddick, he was gruffer and more reserved after the nice blonde man had died.

He came in and out of their lives, always making sure mom and them were taken care of.  After mom died, he stayed in New York intent to find them good husbands.  They disagreed.

He took them back to New Orleans and handed them over to Queen Moussette so they could finish their education and be proper ladies.  He had no idea she was also teaching them how to fight, bringing in the warrior he saw roaming New Orleans a few times that only talks to Nico.

They finally approached him and informed they both wanted to be Turned.

He really couldn’t say no.

Spring Fling 2017: Cancelled

Spring Fling 2017: Cancelled

Since there was only one person who signed up for Spring Fling, it was decided that this years Spring Fling would be cancelled – as you really can’t have an Event with one Entry.

The one person who did sign up will get a Special Guest Post in the upcoming months to showcase their entry.

I would like to take this moment to remind everyone, that the main Sylum Writers & Artists can’t always do it by ourselves.  We have RL and shit happens.  Which is why we encourage participation in all the Sylum Events.  So keep that in mind when Seven Days of Summer and Sylum Advent Sign Ups appear.

Sylum Inspiration: Dean Winchester

Sylum: Hunter

Dean was born to John and Mary Winchester January 24, 1979 in Lawerence, Kansas. When he was four years old, he was excited at his brother Samuel Winchester’s birth. Six months later, his life was destroyed when Balthazar entered their home and killed Mary. John handed Sammy into four year old Dean’s arms and told him to run. Since then he has taken care of his brother, never truly letting him go.

Raised on the road, trained to hunt Vampires, Dean learned to live the life of a nomad. He barely stayed in one school long enough to make friends, but remained loyal to his father John Winchester and brother Sammy. Among the few bright moments in his life are when he and Sammy stayed with Bobby Singer who taught him everything about cars.

As he got older he began to take hunts on his own, running into Maxine Guevera and Logan Cale. Not truly understanding Vampires and the Clan System, he just figured that Vampires weren’t all bad like his father had preached. When he returned home from the hunt he discovered that Sammy had been keeping secrets, and had left the family for college.

Four years later he showed up on Sam’s doorstep with news: their dad had gone missing while hunting. After following a few leads and finding nothing, Dean took Sam back to Stanford, only to discover that Balthazar had come back into their lives, killing Sam’s girlfriend. Swearing to hunt the man down, Sam set out again on the hunt with Dean.

Balthazar soon found them. Dean willingly handed his life over to save Sam’s.

Character Answers: Eowyn

Finding Eowyn was the easy part.  Keeping up with her, not so much.

We were able to track her down after a shift at the Hospital, for a cup of coffee to talk with her, and see if she would answer our questions.

Interviewer: What is the quality you most admired in Queen Gwenhwyfar?

Eowyn: *sipped her coffee looking contemplative*  Well she was … is my Queen.  I admired her strength from the beginning.

Interviewer: What specific qualities?

Eowyn:  *sets her cup down* You have to understand that Gwen was not new to being royalty, but being Arthur’s Queen was much different than being the Princess of Wales.  She had more responsibility, and despite at times out of her depth she dove into her duties and figured out what was needed of her.

Interviewer: Was there a lot of tension in the court because she was Welsh?

Eowyn: *snorts* If anyone said anything to her face, she never said anything.  But the few times there were comments about the ‘Welsh’ taking over, they ended up being visited by her Head Guard.  Now let me tell you – you didn’t mess with him.

Interviewer: Do you two still talk?

Eowyn:  I live in Italy not another galaxy.  It was difficult to keep in touch centuries ago, but you know we have these things called phones and planes.  *the eyeroll was pretty epic* We have lunch and go shopping at least once a month.

Interviewer: Is she much different from the Queen and the modern woman of today.

Eowyn: She is the Queen, will always be the Queen.  Just because England doesn’t recognize Arthur and Gwen doesn’t make her less of a Queen.

Interviewer: *coughs awkwardly* Well … what does she think of the Lord of the Ring Series?

Eowyn: *snickers* We laugh at how men see woman in love.  My ‘crush’ on Aragorn and her ‘affair’ with Lancelot.  Seriously men’s ego always ruins a good love story.

Interviewer: So ….

Eowyn: *looks down at phone and curses* Gotta cut this short.  *finishes her coffee and runs off*

Interviewer: Thanks …
