Sylum Aesthetic: Andrew Kiernan

Sylum Aesthetic: Andrew Kiernan

***

That had been the night when Kiernan told him about Vampires.

Almost sixteen years later, Olivetti was one such creature himself, and he had a bone to pick with Monseigneur Andrew Kiernan about Turning Swiss Guards without consulting him first.

When, he wondered, with an exaggerated roll of the eyes, would people get it through their thick skulls, that he could in no way do his job effectively, if they left him out of knowing important pieces of information?

When??

Ernesto stalked into the Secret Archive, slamming the door shut behind him. He had just opened his mouth to start yelling at the Priest in residence there, when instead he found himself being held by him.

And a warm sense of peace enveloped him.

He wrapped his own arms around the smaller man’s body and held him close, his head dropping down to that familiar shoulder. He hadn’t realized how tired, stressed and strung out he truly was until that very moment.

He could hear soft whispers against his neck, but not make out the words. His eyes closed, just taking in the feeling of complete contentment.

It was as if they were the only two people in the world.

A strong rush of emotion swept over him, deepening and reaffirming his own sense of longing, want, and need.

He moaned into Kiernan’s neck as he was pulled closer, their bodies seeming to fit perfectly together.

His every breath sounded harsh in his own ears.

His body felt then as if he had just had the best sex of his life.

Such a feeling wasn’t new.

He had let Kiernan Feed on him a few times over the past decade or so, but on that particular occasion it felt different. It left his mind more settled, and his Soul completely satisfied.

The final straw came when she brushed past him on the way out of Church, and her hand slid across his backside.

He froze.

She turned and winked, then she continued down the aisle as though nothing untoward had ever happened.

No wonder she never kept a suitor.

The boys in town were far too weak to handle so brazen and forceful a woman.

He had been walking down the dim and narrow passage between the blacksmith’s shop and the barn where he kept his horse – intending to check on the animal and make sure it was getting proper food and water – when the door suddenly opened there in front of him, hands reached out, and he was pulled inside.

The door slid shut just as quickly as it had opened, and he found himself being pushed up against it, small lips pressing upward against his, a most inviting tongue demanding entrance into his mouth.

He gripped the arms of his ‘attacker’ and pulled her away from him.

“Inéz?” he growled. “What in God’s Name are you doing?”

“What does it look like?” she retorted, slipping out of his grasp, pulling his face down into another kiss.

Demons & Angels by Timothy Quinn

A Note From the Author:

I love and hate Dan Brown in equal measure.  I’m not entirely sure how that’s even possible.  But there it is.

His historical and artistic interpretation of … everything, drives me batshit, in provoking a willing suspension of disbelief that you want so very badly to actually believe, thinking he’s leading you on an epic journey, only to fall flat on your face at every ending he ever writes.

I had to do something about this, having hurled my copy of Angels and Demons across the room in anger and frustration.

I had to save the Camerlengo.

I had to do something productive with a fantastically ruined character of charisma and depth whose motivations were pushed from ‘willing suspension’ to ‘you are fucking kidding me with this shit’.

So here he is…

…and then Ernesto came along with him, because he was so goddamn hateful in the book, and so ridiculously cute in the movie, it was a contradiction that’s never quite worked.

Nothing in Angels and Demons worked, even one of the Altars of Science was placed in the wrong damn spot in Rome!  And for the record Raphael has NEVER been buried anywhere else in the history of ever… (don’t get me started cos this could be a long list).

I’m thinking of Sylumizing Dan Brown’s ‘The Lost Symbol’.

Hold onto your butts.  Antonio Crisafi is coming along for the ride … just as soon as Speed’s eaten his copy of Langdon’s book.

Signed,

Timothy Quinn

Sylum Inspiration: Patrick McKenna

Camelot: Member

Patrick was born in 1966AD, in Armagh, Northern Ireland to Mary Ann McKenna, a former Nun.  His biological father is unknown.

She raised him to be a devout Catholic, attending Mass every day of his life, and teaching him that God loved him, and He had a destiny waiting for him.

When he was six years old, he lost his mother in a UVF bombing at Armagh Cathedral – a protest against the visit by a Titular Archbishop on an Apostolic Mission from the Vatican, who had come to Ireland to try and broker peace.  The boy’s survival saw him labelled as ‘The Little Miracle of Saint Patrick’.

The Archbishop took Patrick back with him to Italy, formally adopting him, stating that he would raise the boy in God’s Church.

Patrick had the Vatican as his playground and school yard.  He remembered most fondly the Vatican Police officer who usually caught him running from the Nuns and dragged him back to his studies.

As he got older, he found himself talking with that same officer for hours, looking to him for wisdom and companionship.

Though he didn’t have to, when he was 18 he demanded that he follow through with his National Service to the Italian Military.  Though he never learned to use a gun, he excelled at flying helicopters.  Patrick never told the Vatican Police Officer, that he knew it was him who had made sure Patrick was safe during those two years.

When he returned, he dedicated his life to the Church, going through Seminary and becoming a Priest.  When his ‘father’ became Pope, he took the position as Camerlengo – much to the dismay of many older men in the Church who had sought the position for themselves.

He was proud to see his friend go on to become Inspector General of Vatican Police.

When his father suddenly died, he was devastated.

The night of Conclave 2006AD, everything changed.

Welcome to Ernesto Olivetti Week

Well it’s finally here!  Ernesto Olivetti Appreciation Week!

So how did Ernesto end up invading Sylum so throughly?

I have no idea … okay it was Pierfrancesco’s cheeky grin!

It started off with Timothy Quinn working on the Demons & Angels.   And noticed how cute and adorable Ernesto was.  In the book, he’s a grade asshole and no one cared that he bled out in a church.  But lets face it Pierfrancesco is too adorable to kill.

So we discussed turning Ernesto, as he could be a good Hunter for Lealta.

That’s all it was supposed to be.

That’s it.

A side character, nothing more nothing less.

We were trying to figure out what to do with him, when one night we were walking the dog … may Sammy Rest in Peace … discussing bunnies as you do, and inspiration … Mate him to Kiernan.

To this day we swear Sammy caught that bunny in the bushes!

Okay so at least now the side character had a Mate.

*snorts*

Ernesto knew he had his way in, and from there he weaseled into having his own story.  Because who didn’t want to know what happened after ‘That Night’.  It really was supposed to be a small story … no really it was.

*inserts laughing gif again*

4/8/2012 – The first email stating … ‘The story begins’

4/9/2012 – Was the first … ‘Evil Timeline of DOOOM!’

Subsequent emails dating all the way to 5/28/2017 usually with titles ‘damn Italian’ ‘WTF Ernesto’ ‘Fuck you Bob’ and ‘Seriously, Serious?’

And the rest is history, he slid into storyline made himself home.

He even forced changes in Demons and Angels.  Roads Untravelled was supposed to start with Ernesto waking up a Vampire, after everything happened in Demons & Angels.

*inserts laughing gif again*

Then there was the 4 hour discussion of what if we Mated him to Patrick, after 100 pgs was already written on Roads.   Needless to say we worked around that pretty pairing and ended up with Butterfly and Gustave.

Then there was the moment when Bob decided to tell us he had the soul of Sofya, Nico’s wife.

*inserts laughing gif again*

Speed had to rework more of Demons/Angels, and I had another scene to add to Roads.

Oh and then there was the Ezio discussion in the middle of Mass.  And just as I walked away leaving Speed near the Altar, as I whispered – what if he has the soul of Ezio’s father.

The glaring, flailing and silent cursing was pretty epic.

Of course that backfired on me!  As I had more to write.

In the end, we ended up with a good story and character, still having no clue the impact Ernesto would make on Sylum or the fact he would attract so much attention.

And now he has his own week.

So what do you expect to see during this week?

Random Posts throughout each day (yes that means more than one post a day!) that tie into his storyline, history, and well teasers.

A set of Jewelry pieces designed specifically for Ernesto and other characters associated with Roads Untravelled.

New Fanmix for Roads.

Aesthetics.

Ernesto’s 3.5 hour long Interview, with Pius commentary.

And the updated version of Roads Untravelled.

Also – if you want some add fun check out my Tumblr for posts/reblogs in honor of Ernesto Olivetti Week.

But for today – we’ll be starting to where it all began …. Demons and Angels.
