It’s Ax Throwing Day. Yeah you know what that means – Sylum Snippet!
The ax sailed perfectly through the air landing in the bullseye.
The kid, more like early twenties, gave a cocky smirk and took the money from his opponent.
“Another round?” Lincoln asked stepping up to the kid.
“Sure.” He sized up his competition and found him wanting.
Lincoln wasn’t in his ‘Lincoln’ outfit. He was wearing jeans, and a band t-shirt that Henry had picked up a few years ago. They had been back living in New Orleans for a few years, getting used to being in the ‘states’ and settling into Hunting.
The Ax throwing bar, which really one should never put flying sharp objects and alcohol in the same building, had popped up just about a year ago. He finally decided to check it out, most where small groups of friends who were having fun, not taking it seriously. There were a few that took it to seriously. Then there was this guy, who was a natural – Lincoln would give him credit, but he was screwing people over for money.
It was time to show him true Ax throwing skills.
“What’s your name?” The kid asked.
“Abe.” He sipped the beer, then picked up one of the throwing axes, the weight was slightly off, but heavy enough to give that nice throw the air feel. Setting the drink down, he took the trained stance and tossed it, it hit on the top of the board.
The kid laughed. “Not bad for a first timer.”
Lincoln smiled, as they two started a friendly competition. By the 5th axe, money started to show up on the barrel. This was what he was waiting for. The next ax hit the bullseyes easily.
“Wow. Great shot.” The kid didn’t look worried.
After the fifth axe hit the bullseyes, the last one he used one hand to throw while sipping his beer, the kid got worried as the money moved to Lincoln’s pile.
“What did you say you did for a living?
“I’m a lawyer, mostly research.” He answered with a small smile, that was slowly turning into something vicious.
“Hey kid.” A rougher voice broke through the staring match. The new guy put down a twenty, and pushed the kid away from the barrel. “Do yourself a favor and run off and let the real players play.”
Abe’s eyes narrowed. “Bring it on Paul.”
Bunyan laughed, twirling the axe ins his hands.
