National Day of Fairies

Do you believe in fairies?

Ysabel looked at the stump in the middle of the field, then back at Callum.

“Don’t.”  He held up a finger, stopping her comment.

She gestured towards it.

Maximo shook his head.  “No seriously don’t.”

Now both hands waved at the stump in the middle of the field.  A potato field.

“It’s a fairy tree.”  Callum’s tone was not to be argued with.

She shifted slightly glancing at Aguilar.   “Are we really .. “

“Yes.”  He answered with a sigh.  “Don’t mess with it.  You really do not want to disturb the fairies.”

“Why is there a catholic statue nestled next to it?”  She didn’t move any closer, just trying to figure out the nuances of insanity that was this family she joined.

“Because St. Teressa will protect the fairies and the land.  Plus never bad to hedge your bets with this type of thing.”  Aguilar shrugged.

She nodded then turned towards the tree stump.  “Hello.  Just want to say thank you for taking care of the area, and protecting my adopted parents.”

Callum couldn’t help the smile, then laugh when Maximo muttered ‘kiss ass’ under his breath.   Aguilar shook his head, and grabbed his brother to head back to the main house.   Mateo took Maximo’s arm and dragged him away.   Just as Ysabel turned to follow, she saw something in the corner of her eye, she turned and swore there was a small creature who waved then flew off.

“Don’t even think about it!”  Callum yelled backwards at her.

She rolled her eyes, curtsied then ran off to catch up with her crazy ass family.

I’d like to but my matter-of-fact brain just won’t let me. And things to access my soul always get filtered by it. But I don’t believe in God too, so believing seems the problem here, not the fairies.
