May The 4th Be With You

Until they give me a live action Quinlan Vos – the animated version will have to do!  (Though anyone can think of a good actor to portray him – send me their name)

So it’s May the 4th Be With You!  I’m a few days from going to have some fun at Disneyland’s Star Wars Night.

I’m a full believer that Quinlan and Obi-Wan are the ride or die type friends.  Quinlan would pretty much kill anyone who goes after Obi-Wan, and Obi-Wan would help him hide the body.   So here’s a small scene set in the Sylum Universe.

PS Don’t forget to follow along my other Star Wars fic I Will Carry You – being posted on A03

Now on to the Snippet

Quinlan Vos moved through the Temple with determination.  He didn’t let anyone distract him from his goal.  Obes had been away for over a year, and their bond had been pulled the tightest he had ever felt it, and those two had been through some serious shit.   For a moment it had felt like it snapped, but stayed in place.   Something was different but he couldn’t quite tell what it was.

When the rumor mill hit that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon were back in the Temple, nothing was stopping him.

The door opened before he even knocked.  Qui-Gon gave him a small smile, waved his hand towards Obi-Wan then ran off.

Smart man.

He knows Qui-Gon makes Obi-Wan happy.   But he was the one who held him while he dealt with the rejections so he still reserves the right to break his nose … again.  If need be.

“Obes!”  He sauntered into the main living area to see his friend curled up on the couch with a cup of tea and tablets.

“Quin.”  Obi-Wan gave him a full genuine smile.  “I’ve missed you.”

“That’s because I’m awesome.”  He made his way to the kitchen fixed himself a cup of tea, and grabbed some fruit before settling next to his friend.  “I want details.  Something is different but I’m not sure yet.   So unless you want these gloves to come off and I find my own answers.”

Kenobi sighed and set his tea down.  He knew Quinlan would totally do exactly what he threatened.  “I told you about Nico.”

He nodded, never having told his friend that the Roman had showed up for his Knighting.  He had seen him and the big guy, Kenway, in the shadows.   Quinlan knew how to look in the shadows.  “What about him?”

“I had a vision of his death.”  Quinlan set his own tea cup down and scooted closer.  He knew how much Nico meant to his friend.  He gave him the confidence he needed to take on the bullies in the creche.  He also shared the parkour knowledge with Quinlan, which had come in handy over the years.   “He’s fine, but I ended up staying and helping with what he was doing.   I discovered more about who he is, and well in the process.”  He took a deep breath, trying to figure out the best way to explain the situation.  “I was Turned, changed.  He’s what they call a Vampire.”

“What does that mean.”  Quinlan sensed this is what that change he felt.

“Technically I’m dead.  But not.”  Obi-Wan let Quinlan feel all the pulse points.  “I at least got a few told you so’s to Qui-Gon as he was my Mate.  It’s a thing for Vampires having a person to spend this immortal life with.”

Quinlan sat back for a moment and studied his friend seeing no difference except a slight perception in the Force.   If it was possible he would say he was Lighter than he was before.  “These Vampires are physically dead but still alive and have immortality.   How does that work?”  He listened carefully as Obi-Wan explained all the nuansance, adding in the heightened senses, the ability to move faster.   He explained that the Forced didn’t feel different, but calling to it was simpler.  “How does this work now?”

“We’ve talked to the Council, not much they can do about it.  Mace went down with a headache and muttering about shatterpoints and cursing our names.  Yoda nodded a few times, makes me wonder if he knew a few of these Vampires.  I’ve never heard of them in the Core Worlds.   I was going to do some research and see if can find anything.”

“So you’re going to stay the same while I grow old?”

“That’s the hard part.”  He admitted softly.  “Knowing I’ll leave those I care behind.  I’m sure Yoda will make some comment about one with the Force, and well he’s outlived many of his Padawans…”

Quinlan clapped his hands together.  “How does being Turned work?”

“What?”  Obi-Wan looked at him slightly confused.

Quinlan gave him an unimpressed look.  “If you think for five seconds that I’m going to be left behind.”   He held up his hand stopping what ever idiotic bullshit that was going to come out of his mouth.  “Nope.  This is not up for discussion.  You need me.”

“Seriously?”

“One.”  He held up one finger. “Someone needs to be here to smack Qui-Gon when he’s being an idiot.  Mate or no he’s going to be an idiot.  Two.”  Held up the second finger.  “You are a trouble magnet.  So someone will need to be here to help Qui-Gon handle the crazy.  Three.”  He held up the third finger.  “Since Kybuck Clan we’ve been in the thick of things.  If you think I’m going to let you run off on this grand adventure without me.  Think again.”

“This is a big decision.”

“I notice you’re not saying no.”  Vos pointed out.  “Nico obviously has family and friends around.  You’ll need the same.”

He studied his friend carefully.   Honestly Obi-Wan had contemplated asking him, he had a hard time seeing his life without Quinlan in it.   He meditated and the Force was being very vague on the notion.   “We’ll have to alert the Healer’s ward, as you’ll need blood afterwards.   That’s the other downside, you must consumer blood to survive.   And the only way to kill a Vampire is by taking their head.”

“Wonder if blood tastes different from different species.”  Vos contemplated not even blinking at the idea of drinking blood.  “I’m in.  Think about the pranks we can plan, generations will fear our names!”

Obi-Wan rolled his eyes, then scooted over and hugged his friend, who held on just as tightly.  “Thank you.”

“Obes staying with you for eternity is not a problem.  We’ll just have to find me a Mate at some point.”

“I’m sure the poor person will have to be an asshole to deal with your shenanigans.”  He snorted into his friends shoulder.

“They will be lucky to have me.”  Quinlan gave a huff.

“Yes they would.”

There was a lot to do, and he was sure the Healers were going to have a fit, along with the Council.  Obi-Wan didn’t care, he was going to have his best friend with him while navigating this new life.
