A Robert Heinlein character, Lazarus Long. There are others my 69 year old brain has a few rusted file drawers, but he’s always the one that comes to mind first.
I really love Kylie Chan’s series of books. One of the two main characters is Xuan Wu, dark emperor of the northern heavens, god of martial arts and war. His animal form is a turtle with a snake wrapped around it.
It’s a great lot of fun. On earth he is known as John Chen, a powerful businessman. He has a daughter by a human wife — Simone. The wife was murdered by demons and he lives on earth to protect Simone who cannot travel to the celestial heavens without her mother until she reaches a certain age. The whole story really starts when he hires an Australian woman named Emma, who is teaching in Hong Kong, to be a full-time nanny to his tiny daughter.
I just love the whole series. It consists of three trilogies.
