Back to the Future Day

Yes it’s Back to the Future Day!

And of course what comes with this day – a Sylum Snippet

Marty got out of his car, and grabbed his bag before heading into the small cafe.  It was a local hole in the wall, that had some of the best poboys.  He was greeted by the staff, as comes enough times to know them by name.  He likes the place to grade papers, and just be away from the school or the house.

Gabe sat his favorite sandwich with some collard greens and mac & cheese as his sides.  He thanked him, then settled in going over his students history reports on the affects of reconstruction.   He was half way through his meal when someone sat down across the table from him.  Marty looked up and blinked in surprise at who it was.

“Mr. Westen.”

“Michael.”  He gave him a warm smile.  “Sam and I were taking time away from Miami, figured would stop by and say hi.”

“In a restaurant in the middle of New Orleans.”  He wiped his mouth, though couldn’t help the smile.

“Jimmy told me where you were, after he threatened me.  Protective cowboy.”

“He’s a mother hen.”  Marty was as protective of Jimmy.  “What brings you to Johnny’s.”

“According to everyone it’s the best poboys around, and a must if roaming New Orleans.”  He paused when Gabe brought over the lunch he had ordered at the front counter.   Westen bit back the smile as Gabe gave a questioning look towards Marty, who just nodded.  “I’m glad to see you’ve got a protect racket going on consider circumstances.”

“I’m sure you’re pissing him off more than me just existing.”

“Oh existing is enough to piss a few people off.”  Sam growls every time the name Larry comes up even if it has nothing to do with undead Larry.

Marty chuckled.  “So what really brings you to my humble home grading spot.”

“Ah to help the next generation not to be idiots.”

“I try.”  Some days it was harder than others.  Lucky the kids loved him, and wanted to learn.  Their parents and school board was another matter all together.

“Sam is desperately trying to catch me up on all things pop culture.”  Michael rolled his eyes in fondness over his Mate.   “And I was informed today was Back to the Future Day.”

“Is it really?”  Marty grabbed his phone, and saw a few messages from Jimmy, Noah and Doc.  “I forgot.”

“Figured be nice to spend it with someone who wasn’t there, and just curious on what the 50’s was really like.”

Marty laughed. “Eat your sandwich and let me tell you about the Enchanted Under the Sea Dance.”
