And here’s 2025 Boxing Day Snippet

Warrick stepped out onto the porch eying the two boys.  “Why aren’t you to do your thing?”

“Don’t feel like it.”  Speed shrugged.  He was curled up in one of the lounge chairs reading.

Tony was in the other lounge, covered in blankets, as if it was 5 degrees with a wind chill factor of -5.  “We’ve been getting out our frustrations on those morons who thought it would be a good idea to raid New Orleans.”

The pirate paused.  “I’ll give you that, but I’m going to loose money.”

“And?” Speed flipped the page on his book.

“You could at least tag team and go after someone else if don’t feel like beating the shit out of each other.”  He glanced over at his Mate who was sipping his hot chocolate as if this wasn’t a crisis.

“Who?”  Tony looked up from his sketch pad.

“I don’t know!” Warrick threw his arms up. “There’s got to be someone you haven’t taken on?”

“I notice they never challenge Thomas or Brass.”  Gil spoke up as he stepped out onto the porch, make a beeline of Nico much to Warrick’s dismay.

Nico’s chuckle was low and dark.  “They fought him once….”

1724 – Small Island in the Caribbean

Captain Warrick Calhoun stood on the beach watching Nicolaus’ two brats spat at each other.   The two normally snipped at each other, petty type arguments, typical siblings.   He should know, had many of the same with his own.  The last few days it had been worst, almost as if they didn’t even like each other.   He knew that wasn’t the case, the two defended the other with a tenacity that was passed down from their ‘father’.   He glanced over to his Mate, Lord Leavy – Nicolaus Meridius, who seemed to be perfectly fine and calm over the whole situation.

“What are your children up to?”

“This is their yearly get their pent up frustrations out on each other. ”  He glanced up from his book, to study the boys for a moment.  “It’s been a stressful year, and living on a Pirate ship likely isn’t helping.”

“Not on my ship.”

“We’re anchored and most of your crew is enjoying time on the beach.”  Nico pointed out.  “I’ll make sure they take it off ship.”

“So this happens yearly.”

“Every Boxing Day.”  Warrick had a hard time understanding why Nico thought this whole thing seemed normal.

The bickering got worse over the next couple of days, to the point it was driving everyone insane.   It finally came to head, when the two were close to blows.  Thomas tired of the scrabbling, went over to pull the two apart, Boxing Day was still a couple of days away.   He maybe on a Pirate ship, but he was determined to have a civilized Christmas.

No one knows which one made contact, but in the midst of breaking them up, Thomas had been elbowed in the face.

Everyone stopped.

Nico and Brass both moved towards the three.

Thomas looked up, wiped the blood from his nose, and gave the boys a hard stare.   “In three days it will be Boxing Day.  You can take the time to beat each other to a pulp.  After I am done with you.”

Tony glanced over at Timothy, for the first time worry etched on their face.   It wasn’t the first time, they had fought someone else during their yearly spat, but Thomas was different.  Neither wanted to hurt him, or fear the wrath of Nico.

They hadn’t needed to worry about Thomas.

On Boxing Day, they found themselves covered in sand, moaning in pain.  Thomas had laid them flat, and walked away without a scratch.   Timothy glanced over at Tony, both confused as hell.   Nicolaus walked over and looked down at them.  “Did you forget he trained with me, after I lost Warren?”

“Shit.”  Quinn had forgot that Thomas went everywhere with dad.

“If I ever get stropy with him, remind me of this moment.”  Tony added to the conversation.

“Gladly.”  He chuckled at his boys and walked over to Warrick, and collected his winnings.

“And this is why we never mess with Thomas.”  Tony finished up the story.

“I lost so much money that day.”  Warrick chuckled, then waggled his eyebrows at Nico.  “Lost a few things that day.”

Thomas stepped out onto the porch ignoring the looks.  “As it would seem there will be no fight … “

Brass stepped out behind his Mate, giving him a quick kiss on his temple.  He then glanced at Warrick.  “Shall we show everyone what a couple of pirates can do?”

Warrick grinned, then tossed his phone at Nico.   “Let’s do this.”

Nico caught the phone and updated the betting pool.
