Speaking of  Grant/Sherman Bunnies!

Grant sat in the back of the room, wishing he had a cigar to chomp down on.  The meeting was pointless, stupid, and so far beyond idiotic, that it made him miss the pointless, stupid and idiotic that he had to deal with when he was President.   He glanced over to Billy to see the narrowing of eyes, and hard set jaw.  If they didn’t watch it, someone was going to get shot or set on fire.

Over the past century they had stayed in the military, they both were better with the structure it provided.

The only time either spent away from it, was when they needed time to decompress usually after a war, he stopped himself from thinking back on both World Wars.   The longest they had been away, was after William Tecumsah Sherman had died, and made his was to Australia to the dead President’s wing, where Grant got to surprise him with Lincoln.   They spent twenty years, just exploring the world, and learning about themselves and each other.

Today they were both once again Generals, not high enough to make a difference in the military, but enough to help their men.

The latest four star general was spotting off some racist, sexist, homophobic add a few more onto the list.  He wanted to take the military back to when it was strong with just good white boys in it, like the fore fathers wanted.

“He does realize blacks fought in the Civil War and the Revolutionary?”  Sherman muttered.

“I would bet hard cash his grandpappy was a Confederate.”  Grant replied easily, getting his Mate to snort and instantly pull his phone to find out.  There was an small ahah! and he showed his phone, there was a picture of a Confederate soldier in the Army of Virginia, under Longstreet.

“Love these new phones.”  Billy grinned as he slipped it back into his pocket.

An hour later the farce finally ended, and the two made their way out of the conference room, only to get stopped by said four star idiotic general.  “Grant & Sherman I’ve heard so much about you.”

“I’m sure our exploits against the Confederates is exaggerated.”  Sherman smirked when the guys’ smile twitched.  “We were just leaving, need to get back to the base.”

“I wanted to talk to to the two of you.”  He ignored Sherman focusing on Grant.  “I’ve heard some disturbing information about your allegiances.”

Grant grabbed Sherman’s hand and pulled him back, then stepped in front of him.   He felt the moment Billy’s last fuck left the building, and really didn’t want to explain how a a four Star General suddenly caught on fire.   “Sir.”  The tone was low, and filled with intent.  Billy noticed instantly other General’s around them had stopped and turned towards Grant recognizing power when they heard it.   He rarely used the tone off the battlefield, but when he did people paid attention.  “I am not sure what you’ve heard, nor do I care.  My allegiance is to the United States of America.  My job it to protect the Citizens of the United States.  I swore an oath to follow the Constitution.  Anything else is party politics, grandstanding, and bullshit.  Now if you excuse me, we’ll be going back to the base to oversee our troops.”

“I can make your life difficult.”

“General.”  Grant leaned forward slightly.  “You’re no Robert E. Lee.”

And with that he turned and pulled Sherman out, as they exited the conference room there was a yell as one of the flags caught on fire.
