In the “why or why did you do this” category: Sphere and Congo… both by Michael Crichton

… they also did his Terminal Man book… but honestly the book should never have even been contemplated as a movie to begin with (it’s also among my least favorite of his books)

In the other category… weirdly also Crichton… I rather liked the first Jurassic Park movie –even with the changes 🙂

Interview with the vampire… HURGHHH! I got out of the cinema coursing a lot. The friends that came with me where laughing like crazy at me reaction.

One I love quite a lot is A midsummer night’s dream: I love Stanley Tucci!!!

  3. Fave book well done: Dune. I read the book at least once a year for 20 years. Villeneuve’s version is the closest to the book of the film/tv versions I’ve seen. It’s a beautiful movie visually, and the casting was well done.

Book badly done: Susan Cooper’s ‘The Dark is Rising’ sequence (a highly recommended read even if the series is aimed at teens). The movie, “The Seeker: The Dark is Rising” (based on book 2) was an abysmal flop. Major problem? Main character in the book was 11 year old *English* boy – changed to a 14 year old *American* boy whose family came to England when daddy got a new job. The director decided to age the boy up “to avoid being compared to or accused of copying from Harry Potter”. Cooper published the Newberry Medal winning book in 1973, long before JKR even dreamed of HP. The original book used themes from Arthurian legend and Celtic, Norse and English folklore – which the movie removed. There were some good actors in the film – too bad the script was so inane that no amount of acting talent could save it.
