<\/span><\/p>\n

Owen walked past the living area, only to stop back up and take a second look.<\/span><\/p>\n

John was sitting on the floor, his back against the couch.\u00a0 Next to him was Simba, who was sprawled on the floor acting like a giant kitten, instead of the huge lion he was.\u00a0 \u00a0On the coffee table was a lopsided cake, and a pot of coffee.\u00a0 \u00a0John had a plate with a piece of the cake in his lap, while Simba kept trying to get in a lick.<\/span><\/p>\n

What was out of place of the scene was the show on the television.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“What are you watching?”\u00a0 Owen demanded, moving into the room intrigued by the chaos.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The Spring Baking Championship.”\u00a0 John answered then took a bite of his cake.\u00a0 \u00a0“Simba like watching the baking shows, his favorite though is the Great British Bakoff.\u00a0 We finished that one, so we’re going through these.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“You’re watching baking shows for the lion?”\u00a0 He asked as he climbed over the back of the couch to sit in the corner.\u00a0 Simba got territorial of his human.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yes.”\u00a0 He glanced over at Owen as if it was perfectly normal.\u00a0 “I sometimes try to bake some of their challenges.\u00a0 \u00a0I’ve gotten pretty good at making P\u00e2te \u00e0 Choux and pies.\u00a0 \u00a0Still can’t seem to get my cakes to be straight.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“This is a whole new side of you.”\u00a0 He was trying to figure out how to get a piece of cake.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m an engineer I should be able to make simple things like a cake.\u00a0 I’m annoyed I can’t get it straight!”\u00a0 John glared at his leaning cake.\u00a0 “You want a piece?”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Hell yeah!”\u00a0 Owen took the offered plate and moaned when he tasted the delicious vanilla cake with orange swiss meringue buttercream.\u00a0 “So who is in the lead?”<\/span><\/p>\n

John caught him up on who was in the top of the competition, and his pick for the winner.\u00a0 “Simba is actually good at predicting the winner.\u00a0 \u00a0It all comes down to your last bake, you can do well through this whole thing and fuck up the last cake.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Simba grumbled at one of the bakers, and just as John was distracted chomped down on half the cake.\u00a0 \u00a0He looked smug as he licked off the buttercream.\u00a0 \u00a0John sighed and pulled out a rag and wiped the messy mouth. “This is why I don’t use chocolate!”\u00a0 \u00a0 The lion was not repentant.\u00a0 “Next time I’m making gingerbread,\u00a0 I don’t care if you don’t like it.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Owen kept quiet as he ate his cake, watching those two was more fun than the show.<\/span><\/p>\n
