Each month I’m going to work in building\/sharing playlists that are for upcoming Sylum Stories or just simple Inspiration.<\/span><\/p>\n

This months is for a story that is in progress: Ghosting Out<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

You will need an account for Spotify to listen … I think (I’m still very new at it).<\/span><\/p>\n

And a small teaser for the upcoming story.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Raffiel stood at the steps of the Cocke County Veterans Memorial Hall, wondering once again how he got into these situations.\u00a0 The building felt dark, and foreboding.\u00a0 It was cold, a deep bone chilling cold, that had nothing to do with the evening temperature of Tennessee.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I don’t like this.”\u00a0 He muttered a glance over at his teammates.\u00a0 “It was bad enough during the day, but this is just creepy man.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Darius took a deep breath and went up the last of the steps to the front door.\u00a0 “We need to find out who’s haunting this place?\u00a0 If the spirits of those who died in that plane crash are still lingering, we can help them.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Something isn’t right.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The building was a typical small town Memorial Hall.\u00a0 It was built in the early 1930’s for a place for soldiers to rest.\u00a0 Over the years it held many events, from community events, to USO dances, and tragically a makeshift morgue for an airline crash back in 1964, where 39 people lost their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

The red brickwork showed its age, but was still strong.\u00a0 Most of the windows were intact, a few were busted, likely from local kids throwing rocks or sneaking into the abandoned building on a dare.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not like he hadn’t done that himself as a kid.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hell it was how he became friends with the two idiots he was working with now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Darius Lee, the sophisticated one of their small group, always the most adventurous. \u00a0 Raffiel had to admit there was something about Darius that pulled people to him, including those from across the veil.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Charley Hunter was the class clown, always had been, likely always will be.\u00a0 He could make anyone laugh, which came in handy when talking to witnesses of the Paranmoul, especially kids.\u00a0 He was good with kids, and now that he had three of his own, it seemed everyone just felt comfortable in his presence.\u00a0 Then again half the neighborhood was at his shop or house.\u00a0 He took in strays, from feral kittens to obnoxious teenagers.\u00a0 His wife, Mary-Anne, deserved Sainthood.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As for him, well he was the tall geek boy, who was exceptionally good at math and had a knack for investing.\u00a0 He also was the rational one of the group, or at least it seemed like it. \u00a0 Most of the time he was chasing after the other two, keeping them out of trouble.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think we should start in the gymnasium, where they had kept the bodies.”\u00a0 Darius stated as Charley handed him a flashlight, while tossing a Rem-Pod over to Raffiel.\u00a0 “Just to get a feel of the place.\u00a0 Then later we can split up, we need to check the basement and attic.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Bro, the basement was where Bob, the caretaker, stated he was attacked.”\u00a0 Charley grabbed the SLS Camera.\u00a0 “Might be a good idea for two of us to go there, ya know what I mean dawg.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The building had been abandoned since the mid 2000’s.\u00a0 Cocke County didn’t have the money to keep it up, and it wasn’t like there were any community dances and events.\u00a0 At first there had been a good pool of investors, but then rumors of the Paranormal started spreading and interest died out.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Until now, twenty years later, they were desperate to get rid of it, and didn’t care how.\u00a0 The latest investor, had heard the rumors and had met Raffiel from other projects, also knew his side gig of ‘Ghost Hunting’ asked if he actually believed in all the ‘hocus pocus’ then inquired if they would check it out.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The moment he told Darius, his boy was off and running.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Raffy you can head for the attic, as the reports are that of children playing.\u00a0 You’ve always been good with kids.”\u00a0 Darius gave him a small smile, as he held the door open for the other two.\u00a0 “Or I can send Charley with you \u2026”<\/span><\/p>\n

“No.”\u00a0 Raffiel stopped at the door and gave him a hard look.\u00a0 “There’s something wrong with this place, I don’t want you alone.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Yet it’s okay for you to be?”\u00a0 He pushed slightly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I know what I’m doing.”\u00a0 Raffy smirked, then reached out and touched the St. Michael’s Medal under Darius’ shirt.\u00a0 “Good or Bad, bro, you attract the crazies.”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Bro!”\u00a0 Charley yelled from inside the building.\u00a0 “I’m not doing this by myself, you can flirt with your boy later.”\u00a0 Darius leaned across the door he was holding, both men giving Charley the same deadpan look.\u00a0 He rolled his eyes heavenward.\u00a0 “Give me strength.”\u00a0 Then gestured towards the inside of the building.\u00a0 “We doin’ this or not.”<\/span><\/p>\n

As the door closed behind them Raffiel sighed, this night was going to hell he just knew it.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
