Jack Reacher<\/a> was born on a military base in Berlin, on 29 October 1960. \u00a0Jack\u2019s mother Josephine Moutier Reacher (n\u00e9e Moutier) was a French national, making Jack fluent in French from an early age.<\/p>\nAfter being shunted around the world, growing up on U.S. military bases as his father Stan was deployed, he gained an education in basic survival as well as an education that allowed him to enter the\u00a0United States Military Academy\u00a0at West Point. Graduating from West Point,\u00a0Reacher worked to achieve the ranks of\u00a02nd Lieutenant,\u00a01st Lieutenant,\u00a0Captain, and\u00a0Major\u00a0including an intervening demotion from Major to Captain\u00a0in 1990\u00a0during his tenure in the Military Police. During his 13 years of service, his achievements were recognised in the form of citations and awards including the\u00a0Silver Star, the\u00a0Defense Superior Service Medal,\u00a0Legion of Merit,\u00a0Soldier\u2019s Medal,\u00a0Army Commendation Medal,\u00a0Bronze Star, and a second\u00a0Silver Star\u00a0and\u00a0Purple Heart\u00a0for wounds sustained in the bombing of the\u00a0U.S. Marine Corps barracks\u00a0in\u00a0Beirut\u00a0in 1983.<\/p>\n
Among his formal qualifications Reacher is fluently bilingual in English and French, passable in Spanish, outstanding on all man-portable weaponry, and beyond outstanding at hand-to-hand combat,\u00a0Reacher describing himself as a brawler, his fighting is\u00a0akin to a thrown chainsaw with the motor running.<\/p>\n
He left the service, only to be pulled back into it, after 9\/11. \u00a0Reacher continues to work as an Investigator, despite now starting to reach retirement age. \u00a0He\u2019s mostly a loner, no wife or family, and doesn\u2019t have an online footprint. \u00a0Even for the Military there are times he\u2019s hard to track.<\/p>\n
While following a suspected killer, he ended up in Chicago working with Detective Vecchio to bring in the suspect. \u00a0In the process of saving Vecchio he was wounded, it would seem his age was starting to show. \u00a0Vecchio approached him in the hospital about another option.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
