Maura frowned when she woke up, noticing that she was alone in the bed and had been most of the night.\u00a0 Joe had crashed for a few hours, the two just curled up, enjoying a moment to actually rest.\u00a0 It had taken a while for the two of them to find a ground between them, Jane was their center point, and she will always be.\u00a0 They’ve both worked hard not to make her ever feel as if she had to choose between them.<\/p>\n
Joe had gotten a call about one in the morning, gave her a quick kiss and shuffled out of their shared house.\u00a0 Maura had expected to find Jane snoring softly by the time she got up, but it was obvious the detective never made it to bed.<\/p>\n
With a sigh she crawled out of bed, grabbed her robe, and headed out to the great room, to find her Mate sitting at the kitchen island eating ice cream.<\/p>\n
“Jane!”<\/p>\n
“What?” She gave her a shrug scooping out another bite.\u00a0 “I was hungry.”<\/p>\n
“It’s 7am in the morning.”<\/p>\n
“And?”<\/p>\n
She was tempted to text Joe, to argue some sense into their Mate, but knew he would actually side with her, and likely pass the hot fudge.\u00a0 “It’s not healthy.”<\/p>\n
“I’ve had a shitty night, Maura.\u00a0 The kid didn’t make it, and the fucking father who beat him to death, just didn’t care.”<\/p>\n
Maura made her way across the room, settling in the stool next to her Mate.\u00a0 “Want some hot fudge?”<\/p>\n
“Whip Cream?”\u00a0 Jane asked with a smile.<\/p>\n
“I’ll fix you some.”\u00a0 She leaned over, gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.\u00a0 Afterwards she\u00a0 texted Joe, showing him a picture of a tired Jane with her ice cream.\u00a0 He sent back a smily face along with ‘Did you know it was eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day?’<\/p>\n
Maura chuckled and decided why not and fixed her own ice cream.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
