She sat down in the chair in front of his desk, giving him a warm smile. Grissom smiled back, holding up a finger to indicate that he would be a minute. She fiddled with her jacket, barely listening as he gave short answers to whoever was on the phone.<\/p>\n<p>Grissom hung the phone up, slipped off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose. As he replaced his glasses he looked up at Catherine, \u201cHow can I help you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine smiled at him, \u201cActually, I was just wondering how the conference went? How was Nick\u2019s presentation?\u201d She noticed the grimace that went across his face, \u201cTell me you didn\u2019t screw that up?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI missed it,\u201d Grissom admitted. He still felt guilty, even though Nick had forgiven him.<\/p>\n<p>Catherine stood and glared down at Grissom, \u201cGOD! GRISSOM! How could you forget that!?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom glared back, his eyes darting at the door. \u201cI didn\u2019t mean to, I just\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine stalked over to the door, Grissom jerked as she slammed it shut. \u201cYou forgot! That was a big moment for Nick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know,\u201d Grissom leaned back in his chair. \u201cHe read me the riot act at the conference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have killed you,\u201d Catherine slumped back into her chair. \u201cGod, Grissom. That was not just unprofessional as his boss, but to forget that big of a moment as his partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom looked up at her in shock, \u201cWhat?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine smirked straightening up in her chair, \u201cOh, come on. You didn\u2019t think you kept it a secret?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom leaned over his desk staring at her, \u201cYes, I thought we did. As a matter of fact, one of the deals I made to make it up to him was to come clean to you and Warrick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine shrugged, \u201cI\u2019ve known for a few months, don\u2019t know about Warrick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA few months?\u201d Grissom smiled, \u201cTook you that long?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long have you to been seeing each other?\u201d Curious, Catherine got up and sat at the edge of his desk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA year,\u201d Grissom inwardly cheered at her shocked expression. \u201cBreakfast plans?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d Catherine stated, eyeing him carefully.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNick and I would like to invite you over for breakfast after shift.\u201d Grissom informed her, \u201cHe makes a great omelet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine eyebrow rose \u201cYeah I know, sometimes he would invite me over after a hard shift.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom stood up and grabbed some folders off his desk, \u201cNow that\u2019s settled, we have a DB in a dumpster behind a Chinese restaurant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine grimaced, \u201cI just bought this shirt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<p>Warrick leaned up against the kitchen counter watching Nick move about the kitchen. Warrick sensed something was up, but just couldn\u2019t place it. \u201cYou want to stop fidgeting with the coffee maker and tell me what\u2019s going on in that Texas brain of yours?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick stopped fidgeting with the coffee maker, laughing slightly he turned towards Warrick, \u201cThat obvious?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warrick grinned, \u201cIt normally doesn\u2019t take you ten minutes to make a pot of coffee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick laughed while he switched on the coffee maker, pulled out two coffee mugs and set them on the counter. He stared at them for a minute, then turned and leaned up against the counter, across from Warrick. Warrick watched a flux of emotion run across his friends face.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey man, whatever it is, everything will be okay.\u201d His voice showed full of concern.<\/p>\n<p>Nick smiled shyly, \u201cDid I tell you how the conference went?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warrick forehead furrowed, \u201cNo, did something happen during your presentation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick hesitated for a second, \u201cGris forgot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warrick\u2019s mouth dropped. He looked at Nick eyes wide, \u201cMan, that\u2019s low.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, you know him,\u201d Nick shrugged. \u201cHe meets a fellow Entomologist, and well, the world just disappears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warrick eyed him, \u201cThat\u2019s not an excuse! If he was my lover, I wouldn\u2019t be as forgiving.\u201d Warrick guessed this was part of the sudden breakfast invitation.<\/p>\n<p>Nick laughed, \u201cDidn\u2019t get past you, did we?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve only known for a few months, how long? I\u2019m dying to know.\u201d Warrick asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA year,\u201d Nick said, as he turned and began fixing them each a cup of coffee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd breakfast?\u201d Warrick took the offered cup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was tired of no one knowing, so I demanded we come clean to you and Catherine.\u201d Nick walked past Warrick into the living room.<\/p>\n<p>Warrick sat in the overstuffed chair facing the couch, as Nick sunk into the corner of the couch. \u201cI take it he\u2019s talking to Catherine?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy bet, like you, she already knew,\u201d Nick sipped his coffee. \u201cI was just tired of the little \u2018I know you know but won\u2019t say anything\u2019 between us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Sara?\u201d Warrick wondered, that could be a sticky situation, even though she seemed lately to be doing better, but one couldn\u2019t tell, since Sara was good at hiding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWait and see,\u201d Nick\u2019s voice held a slight worried tone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo how did the presentation go?\u201d Warrick changed the subject, watching Nick relax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dConsidering it was minus one supervisor, it went well. I had a lot of people interested in my theory. As a matter of fact, one or two labs interested in helping with the research, I\u2019ll talk to Gris later about inter-lab collaboration.\u201d Nick smiled, he had worked hard on his presentation and was proud it had gotten a good reception. \u201cMet a guy from NCIS\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dNCIS?\u201d Warrick interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNaval Criminal Investigation Services,\u201d Nick answered. \u201cSpecial Agent Tony DiNozzo, we had a lot in common.\u201d Nick grinned at Warrick, \u201cLet\u2019s just say we sat across the street from the hotel toasting our thoughtless partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warrick laughed and was still laughing when Catherine and Grissom walked into the room. \u201cI take everything went well?\u201d Grissom asked a laughing Nick and Warrick.<\/p>\n<p>Nick coughed trying to regain control, and smiled at Grissom, \u201cHe already knew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom surprised everyone in the room when he walked over to the couch and kissed Nick. Smiling at Nick\u2019s shocked yet pleased expression, \u201cSame, she already knew. But, at least only for the past few months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warrick looked over at Catherine who shrugged, \u201cHey, I\u2019m just here for the omelet, and I expect your famous Texas cheese, mushroom and bacon one.\u201d She grinned at Nick.<\/p>\n<p>Nick laughed, as he got up from the couch and headed into the kitchen, \u201cWarrick, I take it you want the same?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith tomatoes,\u201d Warrick yelled towards the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>Nick walked back out with two cups of coffee, \u201cGil, you want Avocado?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have some?\u201d Gil asked, taking the cups of coffee, handing one to Catherine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust bought some yesterday,\u201d Nick smiled as he headed back into the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell then, make sure you add some to mine,\u201d Catherine yelled towards the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>Warrick not to be left out, \u201cMine too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick stood at the entrance of the kitchen looking at the three, \u201cDoes this look like a restaurant to you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCould I get some hash browns with that?\u201d Gil asked innocently, causing the other two to start laughing. Nick chuckled as he turned back towards the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<p>The four sat around the table, discussing various topics, having a quiet relaxing morning. Nick brewed a fresh pot of coffee and filled everyone\u2019s mugs, then settle back down into his seat. \u201cGo ahead and ask, I know the two of you are dying to,\u201d Nick smiled at Catherine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, Nick, would I ever pry into your personal life?\u201d Catherine sipped her coffee, watching Nick over the rim of her cup.<\/p>\n<p>Nick gave her a patient look, \u201cyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, Warrick is just as much as a busy body as I am. Hence the reason we are CSI\u2019s,\u201d She nodded towards Warrick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just honest enough to admit it, so when did the two you hook up and why?\u201d Warrick grinned at Catherine. \u201cI mean you have to admit this came out of left field. I sure as hell didn\u2019t see it coming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine agreed then turned towards Grissom, \u201cSo Mr. \u2018I have no relationships cause of my career\u2019, what changed?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom just glared at Catherine, \u201cFor your information I have had relationships in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTerry doesn\u2019t count,\u201d Catherine gave him a look. Then quickly added, \u201cNor does Lady Heather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warrick looked over at Nick, \u201cI admit I was a bit shocked you were into guys. I mean I could see Grissom being open minded to just about anything, hence Lady Heather,\u201d Warrick glanced towards Grissom. \u201cBut you always had the Ladies Man reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut did you see me with the Ladies?\u201d Nick asked, a bitter tone in his voice. He hated that reputation.<\/p>\n<p>Warrick opened his mouth then closed it, \u201cNo, not really. And in truth you never really talked about anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreg was the one always talking about my supposed sex life,\u201d Nick pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo how did you two hook up?\u201d Catherine asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGil met me at the airport,\u201d Nick smiled remembering that moment. \u201cI was returning from a conference, he surprised me at baggage claim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine and Warrick turned to Grissom, \u201cRemember the case where the victim looked like Sara?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine nodded she remembered it well. Sara had come to her, after Grissom talked with the suspect. \u201cSara had heard your comments to the suspect. That you\u2019re career was more important than pursuing a relationship. That an opportunity had been offered, but you turned it down, she assumed you were talking about her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut you weren\u2019t were you?\u201d Warrick added.<\/p>\n<p>Grissom shook his head, \u201cNo, I wasn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Flashback<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grissom watched as they escorted the suspect out of the Interrogation Room. His thoughts were in chaos, old regrets mixing in with new. He sat, his eyes focused on the door; he knew it was time to make a decision. He stood purposefully and walked out of the room. He caught Sara walking away from the interrogation room out of the corner of his eye. Another regret, he should have just told her the truth, but how could he have told her when he didn\u2019t even accept it?<\/p>\n<p>He walked to his office, shut everything down, closed his door and headed towards his car. He ignored everyone in his path, a single determination to do what needed to be done. He drove the airport, for the first time in a while he broke speed and traffic laws. He flashed his badge and parked by the curb. He had arrived just as the luggage began to slide down the conveyer belt. He spotted Nick standing off to the side, looking extremely tired.<\/p>\n<p>He walked up with a slight hesitation, just because he had made the decision, didn\u2019t mean Nick would still want him after all these years. \u201cNick?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick startled turned around dropping his carry on bag. Grissom winced hoping it wasn\u2019t his laptop. \u201cGris?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThought you might need a ride home,\u201d Grissom explained quickly, picking up the carry on bag.<\/p>\n<p>Nick stood in shock, \u201cYeah, sure, thanks.\u201d He was in such shock that he didn\u2019t see his bag go by.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNick is that your bag?\u201d Grissom pointed to the suitcase with a Texas ribbon tied around the handle.<\/p>\n<p>Nick shook his head and looked as the bag disappeared around the corner. He grinned at Grissom, \u201cYep, I\u2019ll just have to wait till it comes back around again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick grabbed the bag and followed Grissom out the door to the Tahoe. \u201cYou\u2019re lucky it didn\u2019t get towed,\u201d Nick commented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlashed the badge,\u201d Grissom slipped into the drive seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow, abuse of power,\u201d Nick grinned at Grissom. \u201cAny other shocks for the day?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom looked over catching Nick\u2019s brown eyes, \u201cMaybe a few more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick looked deep into Grissom\u2019s blue eyes, \u201cReally? Should I be worried?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom looked away and eased his way into the traffic, \u201cDid you hear about our unusual case?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I talked to Warrick he mentioned something about the victim looking like Sara?\u201d Nick focused on the road in front of him, instead of analyzing the fact Grissom had showed up at the airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a bit surreal,\u201d Grissom informed him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrissom, I don\u2019t mean to sound rude, but do you even know where I live?\u201d Nick asked.<\/p>\n<p>Grissom looked over at Nick, \u201cI\u2019ve been there before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick gave him a half smile, \u201cI moved after Crane, I live on the North side now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom blushed from embarrassment, \u201cSorry Nick, I should have known that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, you should have.\u201d Nick shocked himself as he said it, and obviously shocked Grissom. \u201cI\u2019m sorry Gris that was un-called for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dNo, it wasn\u2019t,\u201d Grissom giving him a quick smile. \u201cWe sort of just let you pick up the pieces as we moved on. So how do I get to your place?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With a few quick directions they arrived. Grissom pulled up next to Nick\u2019s truck, parked and turned off the engine. The two sat in silence, \u201cDo you want to come in for coffee, since there is something obviously on your mind.\u201d Nick asked as he opened the door and stepped out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat would be nice Nick,\u201d Grissom met him at the back of the Tahoe and helped him with his bags.<\/p>\n<p>The two men walked into the house. Nick turned on some lights setting his bags down in the hallway. \u201cMake yourself at home and I\u2019ll get the coffee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom quietly scanned the room, it was warm and inviting. The leather couch was under the bay window; an overstuffed chair was on the left hand side of the couch, a heavy wooden coffee table between them. A large TV with complete set up was on the right side of the couch slightly diagonally towards the center of the room. On the wall opposite of the couch was a desk, flanked by bookcases overrun with books. Nature prints were on the walls, looking closer a few looked like Nick had taken them. He always thought Nick had a certain quality to his photos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou like?\u201d Nick asked coming in with a cup of coffee.<\/p>\n<p>Grissom hadn\u2019t realized he had been lost in thought for so long. \u201cYes, it\u2019s you.\u201d Grissom looked over at the Texan, \u201cWarm, inviting, simple and strong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick looked shocked, covered his embarrassment by motioning towards the couch. \u201cYou want to explain why you\u2019re here?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect tonight said some things that affected me,\u201d Grissom began slowly. \u201cHe took a chance on a young love, and when she found a more suitable younger man he killed them both.\u201d He looked up at Nick, \u201cI told him he at least had the guts to reach out to what was being offered, while I hadn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick watched him carefully, \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything, and it scares me to death.\u201d Grissom answered honestly. \u201cI\u2019m not good with relationships, I\u2019m terrible at expressing my feelings. I guarantee I\u2019ll screw up, but I want everything. But I\u2019m willing to start with what you can give me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick stood up and walked over to Grissom looking down at him, \u201cAre you sure?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, yes, maybe, I don\u2019t know.\u201d Grissom smiled.<\/p>\n<p>Nick held out his hand smiling, \u201cI can give you everything, but I want it all in return.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom took his hand, letting himself be pulled into Nick\u2019s arms. \u201cI\u2019m terrified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick slipped his hand into Grissom\u2019s hair, \u201cTrust us.\u201d Nick whispered before claiming Grissom\u2019s lips. It was a slow sweet kiss.<\/p>\n<p>Grissom rested his head on Nick\u2019s shoulder. \u201cI do,\u201d Grissom whispered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Present<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Catherine couldn\u2019t get the goofy grin off her face, \u201cThat\u2019s so\u2026sweet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSappy, don\u2019t you mean.\u201d Nick laughs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Nick, was the opportunity you turned down?\u201d Warrick asked, \u201cYou never had an interest in Sara.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSara has always been a good friend and colleague,\u201d Grissom hesitated, but continued. \u201cUnfortunately she got caught up in my own denial and that is something I\u2019ll have to explain in the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when did this opportunity present itself?\u201d Catherine grinned at the two men.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWouldn\u2019t you like to know,\u201d Nick smirked. \u201cNot telling all of our secrets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFine, be that way.\u201d Catherine glanced at the clock with a surprised exclamation. \u201cWell if I want to be somewhat fresh for work tonight I\u2019ve got to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dSame here,\u201d Warrick stood up with Catherine. He turned towards Nick, \u201cThanks for trusting us with the story. Know that I\u2019m behind you on this.\u201d He pulled Nick into a friendly embrace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks, man.\u201d Nick returned the embrace.<\/p>\n<p>Catherine gave a quick hug to Grissom, \u201cWhen you talk to Sara, if you need anything just let me know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom smiled, \u201cThanks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick walked them out, while Grissom straightened up the kitchen. Nick leaned up against the doorway. \u201cI love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Grissom stopped and looked at him, blue eyes full of emotions. \u201cI don\u2019t know why you do, but I\u2019m thankful. I love you, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome to bed, we will clean this up later.\u201d Nick held out his hand.<\/p>\n<p>Grissom took it, and let himself be led down the hallway to the bedroom. The two got ready for bed, in compatible silence.
