His award for \u2018Excellence in the Forensics Field\u2019 sat in the middle of the table next to Lt. Horatio Caine\u2019s \u2018Community Service\u2019 award. Horatio looked as enthused about his award as Gil felt about his. Another award was added to the pile as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs sat down. Gil tried not to snicker at the growling ex-Marine. He guessed Agent Gibbs didn\u2019t like the award for \u2018Years of Service in the Forensics\u2019. Gil wasn\u2019t surprised when the fourth award joined the pile. Mac Taylor had looked a bit perturbed when accepting his \u2018Advancement in Forensics\u2019 award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank God that\u2019s over,\u201d Horatio sighed, undoing his tie as he sipped his drink. \u201cI hate these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still can\u2019t believe that the Director forced me to come. I never accept my awards,\u201d Jethro growled. \u201cThat\u2019s Tony\u2019s job. He keeps them all in a drawer for me. Though I\u2019m not supposed to know about it\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of your agents accepts and keeps your awards for you?\u201d Mac asked. \u201cWhy didn\u2019t I think of that? Hmm wonder if I can get Stella or Danny to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like that idea,\u201d Gil agreed. \u201cI hate public gatherings. Especially these events, where the big wigs who sit behind a desk need to prove their power and existence by handing out awards to the ones they think are doing a good job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolitics,\u201d Horatio grinned. \u201cYou have to love it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan\u2019t we just shoot them?\u201d Jethro asked.<\/p>\n<p>Mac grinned. \u201cWell, we do know how to hide the bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you would find plenty of help.\u201d Horatio looked over the scattered tables checking on his team. \u201cMy team doesn\u2019t get along very well with the politicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut you do well with them.\u201d Gil pointed to the award.<\/p>\n<p>Horatio sighed. \u201cUnfortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mac looked over to see Stella chatting excitedly with Calleigh, Catherine, and Ziva. \u201cShould we be worried?\u201d Mac asked the men at the table.<\/p>\n<p>All four looked over at the table. \u201cI would be more worried about how well Greg and Abby are getting along.\u201d Jethro turned and eyed the two at a separate table.<\/p>\n<p>Horatio grinned at the MEs, who sat at another table talking quietly. Next to them Warrick was talking with Sheldon, McGee, Ryan and Eric. But it was the last table that had him worried. \u201cActually, gentlemen I think we should be more concerned at what\u2019s being discussed at that table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gil followed his motion towards the table across the room. He groaned. Nick was chatting with Tony, Danny, and Speed. That couldn\u2019t be good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Gil,\u201d Mac smiled.<\/p>\n<p>Gil eyed the New York CSI. \u201cYes?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He nodded towards a table off to the side where Sara and Lindsey were chatting. \u201cHow often do you have to stop Nick from killing Sara?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gil laughed. \u201cNick is very easy going. He can attract psychos from a ten mile radius, but he\u2019s still very laid back. Most of the time he ignores it, though one day I think he\u2019ll lose it.\u201d Gil grinned over at Nick. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHope he\u2019s not getting tips from Tony,\u201d Jethro groaned. \u201cHe practically jumped me in the bull pen just to get the point across to my ex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich one?\u201d Horatio asked.<\/p>\n<p>Jethro glared. \u201cThe one that\u2019s the Director now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s got to be awkward,\u201d Mac cringed. \u201cI swear as good a CSI as Lindsay is, she\u2019s blind to what\u2019s in front of her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour team knows?\u201d Gil asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t get anything past Stella,\u201d Mac pointed out. \u201cSheldon figured it out and Flack caught us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Horatio laughed. \u201cAwkward moment?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSlightly,\u201d Mac said. \u201cHow about your team?\u201d he looked over at Gil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCatherine knew from the beginning, but that\u2019s like keeping things from Stella.\u201d Gil looked over at the snickering woman. \u201cWarrick figured it out when Nick had been\u2026\u201d Gil paused, even after a year the thought still scared him. \u201cAfter he had been kidnapped, Nick wanted to tell Greg and Sara.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo Sara knows?\u201d Jethro asked, a bit surprised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNope, she never got what Nick was trying to say.\u201d Gil shrugged. \u201cShe just thought I had been helping him through this rough moment in his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow long have you been together?\u201d Horatio asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the first time he got a gun pulled on him.\u201d Gil shook his head. \u201cDid I mention he\u2019s a magnet for trouble?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other supervisors snorted. \u201cDanny found trouble while locked in a panic room with a dead guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTony caught the plague in the 21<sup>st<\/sup>Century,\u201d Jethro pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>They all looked at Horatio. \u201cWhat? My guy doesn\u2019t attract trouble, okay, except for the fact he rides that death trap. He\u2019ll tell you I get into more trouble than he does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is true.\u201d Mac looked at Horatio. \u201cI\u2019ve heard from Danny how much Speed complains about your \u2018whims\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt doesn\u2019t scare you that those two chat?\u201d Jethro asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou do realize they are also talking with Tony,\u201d Mac pointed out. \u201cAfter that case with NCIS a few months ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t.\u201d Jethro glared at Tony. Tony turned in his seat and grinned at him. \u201cThough all four of them together, now that is a scary thought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey probably formed a support group,\u201d Gil added. \u201cIt can\u2019t be easy being with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, it can\u2019t.\u201d Horatio sighed. \u201cBut I will never get the image of Speed lying on the floor bleeding out of my head.\u201d Horatio looked over at the dark haired CSI. \u201cAll because I wasn\u2019t paying attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow is he doing?\u201d Mac asked, his eyes following Horatio\u2019s stare. He remembered the call from Horatio after Speed had been shot the fear he had heard in the other man\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood.\u201d Horatio turned back towards Mac. \u201cWe have good days and bad days. But if I ever get hold of his parents\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I help you with his parents, will you help me with Tony\u2019s?\u201d Jethro asked seriously. \u201cWhen he was laying there suffering from the plague they didn\u2019t even acknowledge him. Kate\u2026\u201d Jethro paused. \u201cKate told me that she called them to let them know what was going on. His father said \u2018let me know if he dies.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mac shook his head. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing how parents can mess a kid up.\u201d He glanced over at Danny, who was laughing over something with Speed. \u201cThe Messers did a number on him, doesn\u2019t help they still like to reach out and poke at him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNick\u2019s lucky.\u201d Gil shook his head. \u201cHis family supports him and our relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe just attracts psychos from a ten mile radius.\u201d Horatio said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t remind me,\u201d Gil groaned. \u201cHe\u2019s the only CSI I know that has had a gun pulled on him so many times I\u2019ve lost count, been tossed out a window, stalked, and buried alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you handle it?\u201d Mac asked. \u201cI mean I watch Danny like a hawk since we got together. If I\u2019m not working a case with him, I have him with Stella or Don.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s with me or Warrick,\u201d Gil said. \u201cHe called me on it, but considering his past reputation he accepted it. He\u2019s still hesitant sometimes in the field. Not a lot but on those dark nights, in a dark alley he gets a bit freaked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you handle Speed?\u201d Jethro asked Horatio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI trust him out in the field with no problems,\u201d Horatio shrugged. \u201cOver the past year we\u2019ve dealt with the gun issue. He\u2019s actually a crack shot now. Part of me hates that fact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe doesn\u2019t seem to be the type to like guns,\u201d Mac observed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, he doesn\u2019t.\u201d Horatio agreed. \u201cBut there was a lot more going on than him not cleaning his gun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me guess.\u201d Mac leaned back. \u201cDoesn\u2019t talk about his past. Holds things in. Puts himself down. Doesn\u2019t take credit when it\u2019s deserved, but craves any he can get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYep.\u201d Horatio nodded. \u201cDanny?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh yeah,\u201d Mac sighed. \u201cI\u2019m telling you, one day I\u2019m having a long conversation with Papa Messer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTony hides behind the fun loving playboy image. Sometimes it hurts watching it. I see some digs Ziva gives him and there\u2019s a pain in his eyes right before the mask comes up,\u201d Jethro said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt amazes me the strength they have.\u201d Gil sipped his drink. \u201cAll four have had something in their pasts that have made weaker men turn towards a life of crime. Yet, they didn\u2019t. Danny didn\u2019t follow in his family\u2019s footsteps. Speed didn\u2019t fall into a world of drugs. Tony could easily have been a playboy taking whatever and whoever he wanted. Nick could have followed the pattern of abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet they pulled themselves out and made a good life for themselves,\u201d Jethro agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWith a little help from you.\u201d Tony stood nearby grinning. \u201cNow if you are all done talking about us. I would like to drag this old Marine dog upstairs and put his \u2018Years of Experience\u2019 to use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jethro grabbed his award. \u201cNight all.\u201d The three laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Nick sat down in Jethro\u2019s seat. \u201cSo if I make out with you on the table, do you think Sara would catch on?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d Speed shook his head, taking a seat next Horatio. \u201cShe would figure you were drunk and Danny and I dared you to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick laughed. \u201cThat\u2019s not funny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sad thing.\u201d Danny plopped down next to Mac. \u201cI could do a striptease and get Mac to jump me and Lindsay would still tell me \u2018he\u2019s humoring you\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so glad we\u2019re out to our team,\u201d Speed grinned at Horatio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike we had a choice,\u201d Horatio snorted. \u201cAlexx threatened my life in front of the lab when you came in with a black eye.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell you did hit me,\u201d Speed smirked at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrat,\u201d Horatio grinned back. \u201cTaught you not to tickle me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot really, just got better at ducking.\u201d Speed picked up the award. \u201cThis is what, your fifth Community Service?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Horatio rolled his eyes. \u201cSomething like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speed grinned at the group. \u201cIt\u2019s past his bedtime. All that community service tires him out.\u201d He stood up, grabbed Horatio\u2019s hand, and pulled him up out of his chair. \u201cNight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They ignored the snickering girls as they walked by. Stella and Calleigh got up and joined the four men at the table. \u201cWe had an idea,\u201d Calleigh giggled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere\u2019s Catherine?\u201d Gil asked. He hadn\u2019t seen her leave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLindsey called.\u201d Stella glanced over at the CSI. \u201cThe twelve-year-old not the teenager.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Danny started laughing. \u201cStella\u2026\u201d Mac glared at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d Stella acted innocently. \u201cZiva said something about a cute bartender and took off. So you\u2019re stuck with us two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are the two of you up to?\u201d Nick asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had an idea.\u201d Calleigh giggled again. \u201cOkay, the fifth margarita might have been too much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIdea?\u201d Gil asked, concerned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you leave with Nick and Mac leaves with Danny,\u201d Stella pointed out. \u201cThen Sara would leave with Lindsay. The idea is that if they leave together \u2013 they\u2019ll get drunk because once again their plans of catching their man have been foiled. Then end up in bed together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Danny got up and actually pulled Mac out of his chair. \u201cLet\u2019s get this plan started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stella looked at Calleigh. \u201cDo you think the boys would let us watch?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick shook his head. \u201cSpeed warned me about you.\u201d He pointed at Calleigh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA girl has to try,\u201d Calleigh pouted. \u201cOh well let\u2019s go and torment Eric and the guys over there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two girls headed for the other table. Eric and Ryan both got up and ran for it. Nick laughed as he turned back to Gil. \u201cI do not attract psychos from a ten mile radius.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gil laughed. He grabbed Nick\u2019s hand then his award. \u201cLet\u2019s go. I\u2019m tired. It\u2019s been a long day and you know how I hate these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, you need sleep in your old age.\u201d Nick smiled at him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI\u2019ll show you old,\u201d Gil growled lightly. \u201cJust you wait.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Morning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Horatio sat down at the breakfast table smirking. \u201cSo how was your evening?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jethro grinned. \u201cTony\u2019s still asleep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going to ask last night.\u201d Mac sipped his coffee. \u201cHow do you deal with unruly subordinates who happen to be your lover?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gil slipped into the seat. \u201cFuck them into the mattress until they stop being unruly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorks for me,\u201d Jethro grinned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMe too,\u201d Horatio laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe desk works as well,\u201d Mac grinned. \u201cOnly problem is the glass walls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four supervisors laughed.
